I hope we're better off with him.
I'm been vascillating on this for a while...
But the bottom line is, we probably overpaid, but we also probably didn't have much else to spend the money on...
And I'd rather overpay for Millwood than just have the money sit in Hicks' pocket...

1 thing left to do...
Everybody is clamoring for the Rocket now, but if I'm JD, now is when I work on that 7 (I know they've said either 3 or 10) deal for Tex. And if it really does have to be 10, I'll go along w/ Evan Grant and do 10/150. However, it really annoys me that we can't sign Mark to the identical contract that Pujols signed-7/100. And don't give me that inflation dollars argument, Tex ain't Pujols, no matter how much we love him.
Nevertheless, all that venom I had after the SD trade (which I am pretty luke warm on now, rather than heavily vitriolic) is LONG GONE. Good onya JD, good onya...

Teixeira
He's probably only get about $24 million over the next three years in arbitration due to how the arbitration rules work, so you then giving him $126 million for the last 7 years. That's too much.

Huh?
I don't think that not wanting to give him $126 million for 7 seasons is undervaluing him.

Tex
I mean, maybe I'm misunderstanding you Burnt, but do you think its better to wait this one out?

Teixeira
Factoring in that he's going to get about $25 million for the next three years, that's $85 million for the next five years, fully guaranteed, three years before he hits free agency.
If he doesn't take it, then I wait it out for a couple years and just go to arbitration with him. He can't go anywhere for three years, so it's not close to a crisis, so there's no need to offer him an over-the-top contract that could blow up on us.

Wow
I'm very happy we got this done.
Making the 5th year voidable based on IP is a very smart move.
Management is playing this thing like they actually want to get to the playoffs THIS YEAR. Imagine that...
