"The Ho"
Why do you call Chan Ho Park "The Ho"?   Sounds insulting.  As an Asian American, I wouldn't appreciated it if somebody nicknamed me that.   I noticed you called him that for some time?  Will his win ratio win you over?

check his stats
He's called The Ho because he's been a frustratingly awful, comedically overpaid pitcher in his time in Texas.  Were you expecting fans to call him The Guy Who Rules?  Or, The Awesome Pitcher?  The Ho is appropriately derogatory...don't read too much into it.

The Ho
I'll probably always refer to him as "the Ho", even if he wins the Cy Young, although I do agree it has a generally negative connotation.

Folks in cyberspace started calling him that his first season, when he was looking like such a bust, and I picked up on it.

Yeah, it is basically supposed to be a vaguely insulting play on his name -- the way I've seen a few folks refer to Alfonso Sorryano, for example -- but it isn't racial in nature.

Ho
I've never took it as insulting.  Just like people call Mench "Shrek."  Could be insluting to some people, but maybe those people that find it so are a little too sensitive.  Living in this "Era of Self-Esteem" is ruining our country's ability to communicate.

"The Ho"
What does being an Asian American have to do with it?  It's not like "Ho" is a derogatory word used to describe Asians like.  It's just part of his name.  Jeez, some people just look for reasons to be insulted.

Hey
As a consistent bedwetter for the first 17 years of my life, you have totally insulted me.

Try floorwetter
he would miss the bed even if he were lying on it

singles
Are these hard-hit balls or just flukey singles they're getting?

by hightowersmith on May 4, 2005 3:13 PM CDT reply actions

Well
I was just saying that calling him "The Ho" is harsh and maybe we should let by gones be bygones.   Heck, he's 3-1 (so far)...at least give hima chance while he's getting out of the funk the last 4 years.

unless you think of a better nickname
and unless he stops being the anti-stopper, he's always going to be the Ho

and as an asian american, I have no problem calling him that.

At least he's out of the game now
Trying to give the game back after the offense exploded...  Maybe Riley can hold things together for a while.   And yes, his nickname is perfect.  Maybe add "dirty" in front of it, or "wild" since he evidently can't throw strikes today.

And he's getting $15 million this year to be a league average pitcher.  Yep, perfect nickname.

oakland is a joke
why are the commentators on FSN so nice to oakland?? Oakland is the biggest joke in baseball this year, and have absolutely no hope of even finishing .500 on the season. They have the worst offense in baseball, and Chavez is so deep in a slump that he may not hit better than .250 this year. Heck, I couldn't see anyone in the lineup with 100 RBIs this year either, because no one can get on base..

Oakland
Why are you so mean to Oakland?  "The biggest joke in baseball?"  That is a little extreme coming from a fan of a team a whole 1.5 games ahead of them.  Do you not think that Kansas City is a bigger joke?  Or Colorado?

I'll take KC.
