New poll

Great response on the Millwood poll...we got almost 300 votes, and the deal was overwhelmingly approved, with 93% of the votes being an "A" or a "B" grade...

Time for a new poll now...what was the best move of the Rangers offseason?

Cast your votes at the right...

My Reasoning..
I voted the German for Castro trade with KC.  I think this was one of the shrewdest moves Daniels made, and showed me that he can multi-task effectively.  If Castro pans out, I think it makes it even better, but working the deal prior to the draft caught a lot of teams off guard, including me.  I believe several teams were interested in Castro and the Rangers beat them to the punch.
  • I didn't vote for the Soriano trade because I don't think we got good enough value for him, but I'm not complaining as I believe it was the best that could be expected under the circumstances.
  • The Rodriguez for Padilla trade was a close second in my mind.  Actually, I still don't understand why the Phillies made this trade.  I guess I'll read Conlin's article to find out how the Phillies fleeced the Rangers in that deal.
  • Obviously, the Millwood signing is the most important of the offseason, but it really was a matter of a pitcher willing to give us a shot IF we ponied up the big bucks.  I like Millwood a lot, so I am happy, but it really was just a matter if we got in the game or not.
  • The Eaton trade is intriguing to me, in that I was concerned about Young's ability to pitch more than 150 innings effectively.  I don't like Eaton's attitude about playing here, but like Padilla, we could reap the benefits of a great season from Eaton in a contract year.  Actually, the key to trade for me is the little Japanese guy, who has a difficult time getting his physical completed.  He could be a difference maker this season.
  • The deal that I was not even aware of until my internet was restored until yesterday, is the signing of Jimenez.  I REALLY like the possibility of what Jimenez could do for the team.  This is a wait and see transaction, but I REALLY dig this one.
I miss 1989. I miss 1995. Please make me miss another season in 2006.

There
There is no doubt what so ever that the Wilkerson trade was the best.  To get anything of real value for Soriano was amazing, but to get Sledge and Galarraga was gravy.

Word.
Dumping Sori for Wilkerson was golden.

yup
thats the trade i voted for. wilkerson is a great player, being highly underrated by the national media. and they also got a decent pitching prospect out of it.
soriano's value was nill, they got the best they could have

as Adam says -- word
Trading Soriano achieved so many great things: opened 2nd base, filled a need at OF and lead-off for two years and improved overall defense while reducing payroll.  How Daniels was able to ship Soriano, someone who no one really wanted in the last two years, I still don't know.

I also love the Padilla trade.  The cost was essentially zero, with the net effect of acquiring a fairly young pitcher with past success for one year at a totally reasonable contract.  If Padilla was a free agent today, he'd certainly get more years and more money.  Picking up good talent for free is key for teams without unlimited, Yankee-like budgets.

Wilkerson
I voted for the Wilkerson trade, but I could have easily placed one of the pitcher deals right up there with it. We needed pitching, and if they don't get injured and handle their business - we just might be IN business.

Not sure....
How 4 people think that letting Rogers walk was the best move of the offseason.

I want to know
Going back to the Millwood poll on if it was a good signing how 5 people could give it a D and 3 people gould give it an F. I would like to hear from those people and find out why.
Way to pony up Hicks now go get Rocket!

Padilla
I voted for the Padiila move. Getting a former all-star pitcher who's still young enough to turn things around for essentially nothing (I believe Ric-Rod had little or no shot at making this year's club) was brilliant IMO.

Millwood would have been second.
Eaton/Otsuka third.
Wilkerson 4th.

Somebody's got to win the West in '06. Why not Texas???

I'll go....
for the Padilla trade. I couldn't see Rico ever helping the Rangers, but Padilla will at least be solid.

The Daniels Bandwagon
Is a little out of control....

How is considering it
One of the moves made a "bandwagon"?

Without
Daniels hell knows what our rotation would look like, probaly some washed up out of prime if you can call it that players.  What Daniels has done for this team is amazing and still boggles my mind.  He has put the Rangers into contention after nobody when before this offseason no Rangers fans could even dream about that.
Jon Daniels is my hero....

well....
The point is, is that really a contending rotation?   And R.A and Wasdin arnt really young prospect studs yet neither is Padilla but if everything goes right for us our new rotation can be good.,  if they return to old form...
Jon Daniels is my hero....
