It looks like Steinbrenner is having 2nd thoughts about firing Torre:

An interesting tidbit in there from Sheffield about hitting Arod 8th:

"I think that affected the morale and psyche of the entire team, not just A-Rod," Sheffield told the newspaper. "I'm not making any excuses, but everyone was wondering what was going on. It made it a real weird day. You would like to be treated with a little respect, I don't care who you play for."

Though I question Sheffield's reasons for talking about this publicly, I agree with him.  Dropping a 120 rbi guy to 8th in the order smacks of desperation, and could only have further messed up Arod's psyche more.  So much for Torre being great at handling veterans.  This is the kind of mind game we got on Buck about isn't it?

Don't get me wrong, Torre deserves all the respect he gets for his team's success over the last 10 years.  But I don't think he's the answer for the Rangers, and there are several other good choices out there (Hillman, Wakamatsu, Washington, etc.)
