Pending Free Agents
I know this is kind of stupid, but can someone point me in the right direction for a list of potential free agents this off-season. I like to play GM sometimes, and I am not finding the list I am looking for.
Thanks in advance.
PS: And by the way, I will work harder in the future to figure out a way to ask this type of question in 300 words or more in the future.

my personal dead horse to beat
- allows fewer hits than IP
- strikeout rate
- strikeout/walk ratio
- more than six innings per start
Jason Schmidt
Andy Pettitte
Roger Clemens made multiple lists averaged just under 6 innings per start.
Once again I'll say why would anyone not consider keeping Padilla?

Because
playoff rotation to me.

Intricate Dealing
- Blalock to SD with a RHP prospect, Peavy and a B-C OF prospect to Texas
- Three way big boom deal sending Teix + Arias to Baltimore; Tejada and Daniel Cabrera + a prospect to the Mets; Perez, Reyes, and Endy Chavez to Texas.

Those Trades
The second one, I'm not crazy about. I'm on the side of "You Don't Trade Teixeira, Period". But I can see a little upside to it.

Those trades
I wouldn't want Texas to do the second one.

Peavy
Why would New York want to trade Reyes for an end-of-the-line Miguel Tejeda, and add like 15 million in salary while they're at it?

Blalock to SD

You'd be lucky
I suspect his stock is so low you are better off holding onto him, and see if he responds to another manager.
I think trading him now would be selling low.

So what is the actual ETD then?
by gp on Oct 5, 2006 4:03 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
yes, I do
JD will get offered little more than a Kyle Lohse-type by some smartass GM trying to take advantage of the "shorty," and, bright, thoughtful man that he is, he'll turn it down.

we're stuck with Blalock
Right now he isn't really helping this team very much, but he's probably not hurting it either.
by t ball on Oct 5, 2006 5:48 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Blalock
The odds of him being worth $11 million the next two seasons are very low. If someone would take him and his contract, I would deal him immediately and cut the losses.
by BurntOrange on Oct 5, 2006 8:49 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'd do that

answer to your earlier post
My beef is with the people who have been saying we shouldn't even offer Padilla a contract, I'm just saying we need to make a competitive offer. He is one of the better pitchers available this winter and has already shown he can pitch and eat innings here in Arlington. The Rangers are going to have to pay someone a lot of money to come here, unless JD gets very creative in the trade market.

addendum
I have my doubts about Schmidt coming here, though he wanted to be on the west coast?
by t ball on Oct 5, 2006 1:39 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I dunno
Personally, I think Padilla's gonna get north of 8 million per season, easy. Anything less and his agent sucks. Too many teams need pitching, and he WILL be overpaid by someone. Simple as that.

Personally...
I'm not a huge believer in Pettitte.
And he'd be 37 in the last year of a 3 year deal, while Padilla would just be 31.
by Adam J. Morris on Oct 5, 2006 6:34 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Why not both ? The payroll will............
As an aside, will Petitte really get $10M per for 3-4 years ???
by tklawless on Oct 5, 2006 11:30 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Mike
Also, do you really think we can land Pettitte for 3/27? That may be what he's worth, but I bet we'd have to go a good deal higher to get him here. And, are you saying you think we have even the remotest chance of landing Schmidt? I don't.
I'd say Millwood, Pettitte, and el Boracho could be a pretty solid playoff rotation, too.
If we could land those 2 at 3/27 and 3/21 respectively, like you mentioned, I feel pretty certain that the "player-specific" ceiling would rise to accomodate, don't you?

We can't keep letting guys like Padilla, Rogers and Young leave for nothing.
