Matsuzaka thought.

The more I hear all of the journalist claim the Red Sox have made the highest bid on D-Mat, something continues to befuddle me. Why havnt we heard a confirmation yet from the Lions?

If, by all opinions previous to the bidding, we all though 20-30 mil would win this thing, the Lions ownership had to be expecting around the same dollar figure.

So if the Red Sox blew them out of the water, 40, 42, 50, 58... whatever the number is, why wouldnt they jump on the offer?

Is it possible a bid of oh say 27 mil might have actually been the highest bid?

Im really just thinking out loud. But could Olney, and Gammons and a bunch of these blowhards be wrong?

Probably not. The Japanese are just taking their good ole time but a Ranger fan can still dream right?

Yeah
I've had some conversations along these lines too. I assume that they just figure that there's no rush, that the offer is concrete, so why not take all of the allotted time?

I've thought that
Logically, if the Red Sox $50 million plus bid was considered very smart by all these analysts, and it turns out that the Rangers actually have the highest bid with $27 million, JD and Hicks have to be complete freaking geniuses. I mean they get this pitcher and get to "stake their foothold in the lucrative Japanese market" or whatever stupid justification Olney gave, all for half the Red Sox speculated price.

Of course, I still think the rumors of the Red Sox high bid are probably true, but it would be pretty funny if it wasn't.

More than likely...
...they're just milking it for PR reasons.  I've read that Seibu and MLB will both be making comments about everything at 8 p.m. ET tonight, so there must be some kind of plan in place to make this a really big "event"...  Even though it would be a mockery of the whole process, I don't doubt that we'll hear that Matsuzaka has already agreed to a contract when the announcements are made later tonight.
We've got the bats, we've got the gloves, we've got the Manager, now let's go out and get some pitching!
