Rangers, Red Sox discussing Manny
Nov 17 - The Red Sox are talking to the Rangers about a possible deal for Manny Ramirez, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports. Texas is looking for a bat to help bolster its lineup, in an offseason in which they might lose Carlos Lee, Mark DeRosa and Gary Matthews Jr.

Rehashed old news or new hot burner kind of stuff?

From a CNN SI Article:

"Teams familiar with the Red Sox's thinking say this will be no sort of fire sale and that they would want equal value back for Ramirez since his whopping $160 million contract is down to a very palatable two years for about $40 million"

So....if we want him we will have to give up a lot.

Every team wants equal value

but the majority of the time they don't get it. I say kick the tires but if they want too much then pass. They had their chance to unload him back in 04 but got greedy and lost out

Yup

Seth Mnooking pointed that fact out: Manny's contract, in comparison to what Lee and Soriano will be demanding, is pretty reasonable now.

I've been a huge proponent

of trying to get Manny here.

Offer Wilkerson, Mahay and Volquez. Once you subtract the money we would've been paying Wilkerson, it's about a 15 million dollar increase, which would leave us 20-25million for the rotation.

Manny would look awesome in the cleanup spot behind Tex.

I would love this deal

bcuz you can shift him in lf and the dh spot, which would give an opportunity to botts without being to reliant on him to contribute. You can shift wilkerson over for one year, and sign vernon wells next year.

No Manny

compared to projections for Soriano and Lee, Manny's contract is downright reasonable. No way the Red Sox trade him. I'd love it if they did, but they won't. If the Sox get Drew, he just replaces Trot.
