Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

LSB Notes

No slight against Adam (I think he runs an excellent blog), but I have some suggestions.

  1. In stories and comments, could everyone start using the blockquote tags when quoting from other sources, in addition to including the URL to the source?  Simply using italics doesn't differentiate enough between your comments and the source's quotes.
  2. Also, with the increase in diary frequency, can we have the ability to recommend diaries?  Like on A's Nation & Daily Kos?  I know I asked for this before and was shot down, but considering how many good diaries get posted and then are lost within a day, this could help keep the good ones around for the amount of time they deserve.
Anybody else have suggestions?  Add them below...

Suggestion
Have a separate column for OT diaries. Football season is killing the baseball talk!

I use HTML to emphasize text and link to URLs, but I don't use a block when I quote other sources because I forget the tag.

And more broadly, I think that the majority of users will never use tags.  We need a WYSIWYG editor (which should be pretty simple to implement, really) or else have the majority of comments in plain text.

block quotes?
Forgive this musician first, computer user second idiot, but what exactly does that mean?  I don't know many of the formatting tricks, though I've figured out how to bold, italicize, and use tiny url...

Thanks
but I have no idea what any of that means.  I'll just use "  " when I quote people.

well...
...how do you do bold and italics?  With 'b' and 'i' tags?

It's as easy as this:

Text I Want To Bold

Text I Want To Italicize

Text I Want To Quote

Text I Want To Bold

Text I Want To Italicize

Text I Want To Quote

bah
Looks like they disable the code tag.  just use 'blockquote' like you would 'b' or 'i'

I've been
bolding with * and italicizing with /

It looks like there are some formatting tutorials there, I'll figure it out.  Thanks for the link.

The Penalty Box
When some lame posts his third lameass diary of the day, we can vote to put the rube in some sort of "penalty box." Just deleting his diary isn't good enough. He should be shamed.

You could call for a vote. Thumbs up or down, Caligula-style.

Also, anybody that writes 500 word essays with only 1 paragraph? Somethings gotta be done there, too.

As for recommended diaries, I guess someone could take it upon themselves to ask for suggestions, then do a poll.

But it would be cool to have a separate column. I wouldn't mind seeing a vintage column, too. And a flame war column. And a vintage flame war column.

Maybe we could take a page out of Myspace's book and flip it. Instead of a friends list, you could have a nemesis list. I can see Dustin and Requiem lining up for that one...

And Sharky/Longhorn vs. Everyone
Check out Daily Kos or A's Nation to see how the recommended diaries work.  You can also see the blockedquote tag in action.  Very easy to see the difference between text that someone is quoting and then that poster's comments regarding the quote.

We aren't
the A's.  I feel like I am in Cool Runnings and you want to do everything like the Swiss...we aren't the Swiss.  We are the Rangers!

I was merely...
...using them as an example.  All these blogs were built off the same codebase, so we know it's possible to simply turn them on.

I was just
joking around anyways.  But you are right about the other blogs.

I know we had our disagreements earlier this summer...but I agree with you on this 100%!

Yeah
Our disagreement was pretty damn funny, though, I thought.

Might be a good candidate for the vintage column (I don't think you can call it a flame war, since it was just us going to and fro).

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd put the link up for the newcomers...

OK here it is
It isn't actually as funny as i remember it, but some might find it entertaining:

(still don't know how to do that cool link thing where I write some snappy sentence which is actually the link, maybe you can dumb it down for me Moto)

let's try this
<b>this text is bold</b>
<i>this text is italicized</i>
<blockquote>blockquoted text</blockquote>

Try copying the above values (<b></b>) on either side of what you're typing.  Should do the trick.

Heh
A nemesis list is a good idea.  I, for one, don't have nearly enough drama in my real life so some fake internet drama really could fill a void.

Requiem should also have his own separate column from which he could demand apologies for imagined insults.

I'm too lazy.......
to even figure out what you're talking about here.  Work make me not want to come to LSB.  Work make me tired.  Work is what I come here to get away from.  BAH!
