NL GG winners announced, and Dewan's all-fielding team....

NL GG Winners

P Greg Maddux
C Brad Ausmus
1B Albert Pujols
2B Orlando Hudson
SS Omar Vizquel
3B Scott Rolen
OF Carlos Beltran
OF Mike Cameron
OF Andruw Jones

Dewan's all-fielding team

First Base - Albert Pujols, St. Louis Cardinals (87 points)
Second Base - Orlando Hudson, Arizona Diamondbacks (90)
Third Base - Adrian Beltre, Seattle Mariners (78)
Shortstop - Adam Everett, Houston Astros (98)
Left Field - Carl Crawford, Tampa Bay Devil Rays (87)
Center Field - Carlos Beltran, New York Mets (90)
Right Field - Ichiro Suzuki, Seattle Mariners (95)
Catcher - Ivan Rodriguez, Detroit Tigers (96)
Pitcher - Greg Maddux, Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers (78)

I agree a lot more with the Dewan' All-fielding team than the GGs....

Brad Ausmus?
Vizquel over Everett?
Andruw Jones (he has not been very good over the past couple of years)?

I think it's better to just ignore the Gold Gloves. Hmmmm, maybe that's what I should have done.... Oh, well.

NL Gold Gloves
For Adam Everett, especially, and also Willy Taveras, not to get one is pretty ridiculous.

ARI
Can bring some nice infield defense with Tracy, Drew, Hudson, and Jackson.

They've got a nice young infield....
but I'm not so sure I agree about the infield defense.

Drew, Tracy, and Jackson have not been known for their stellar defense, and the numbers don't seem to say that they're anywhere close to the top.

They should be very good offensively, though.

Ausmus
Next year when he hits .180/.240/.210, people will talk about how he's the best defensive catcher ever.    In 2008 when he hits .100/.120/.100, the BBWA will waive the five-year rule and stick him in the Hall.

Ausmus
Well, he is a very good defensive catcher.

With him behind the plate, Everett at SS, and Taveras in CF, they could play my grandmother at 2B and still have excellent middle-of-the-field defense.

I agree that Everett is great.  I think Ausmus is probably overated at this point in his career...but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.  Taveras??  I didn't see as much of him this year as last, but he was awful last year.  So unless he GREATLY improved (which is possible I guess) we'll just have to agree to disagree.  He's very fast but took bad lines and generally got bad jumps when I watched him.  Anyone watch a ton astros that can weigh in?

Taveras
According to BP's defensive statistics, he's been an elite defensive CF the past two seasons.

I probably went to 25 of their games this year and watched another 25 on TV, and he looked darn good to me.

Everett
I bet he isn't even good.

He's white right? White SS? No.

I might have my ranger shaded goggles on
But I am sorry, Pujols is in no way shape or form a better defensive 1st basemen than Mark Teixeria.

Pujols is above average at best. He should be watching tapes of Teix fielding, not being ranked ahead of him on lists.

What does that have to do with anything?

OK
You were talking about that All-fielding team.  I'd take Tex over Poo, too, but Poo's pretty good.
