Lofton
He should be an upgrade over Matthews.

by Dustin on Dec 10, 2006 8:18 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

didn't know
lofton was that old.

by selppuc on Dec 10, 2006 8:21 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

But
still a really solid player

So...
...is just about everyone else's.

Just found it ironic
that a 40 y.o. slap hitter has a higher OPS than Hank......who'd have thought that 2-3 years ago ?

Rosenthal
is the only one reporting it so far that I could find.  I'm ok with this, not extremely excited, but a good move for one year.  I hope the contract isn't too much if it happens.

Lofton
I like it, maybe a platoon of lofton and guzman in center....definate defensive upgrades and good speed on the basepath
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

by rentz on Dec 10, 2006 8:23 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I dont think it will be
a platoon. More of a tutelage. I see Lofton starting 120-130 games and Guzman spelling him and learning under him.

Im extremely pleased with this deal.

by Nichols22 on Dec 10, 2006 8:27 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

yeah
not exactly a platoon, but i expect guzman to get a fair amount of starts either to give lofton a rest, or because lofton's injured

he will if
he's better than Marlon Byrd.

Personally, I might prefer that he get regular playing time at AAA at least to start the year.

By the way
where is Adam? The board has been slow as hell the last few days.

Well,
all of us occasionally have to leave LSB to momentarily tend to the rest of our lives...I had some catching up to do after slacking during the winter meetings myself.

solid
pickup
Jon Miller says Vicente Padilla with a thick accent.

by Agreen07 on Dec 10, 2006 8:30 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

so this means
non tender wilkersons contract

by myoungfan11 on Dec 10, 2006 8:31 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Uh
They'll keep him, that is.

by Dustin on Dec 10, 2006 8:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i think
wilkerson is going to make 4 million next season right?

by myoungfan11 on Dec 10, 2006 8:35 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Again ...
... why would signing Lofton mean that we non-tender Wilkerson?

by Athos on Dec 10, 2006 8:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

according to this
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Home_MLB.aspx

it says it increases our chances of doing it

by myoungfan11 on Dec 10, 2006 8:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't see it there
...but it doesn't make any difference.  They'll keep Wilkerson.

by Dustin on Dec 10, 2006 8:42 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe...
...it increases the non-tender percentage from 10% to 20%.  Still think it highly probable Texas keeps him.

by Lucas on Dec 10, 2006 8:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

That's not what I was asking.
You seemed to be advocating non-tendering Wilky if Lofton is signed.  Why are you advocating that?

by Athos on Dec 10, 2006 9:14 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I wonder...
...if Washington will let Lofton run?  Could be a different look for the Rangers next season.

by Dustin on Dec 10, 2006 8:46 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Lofton
Nice pick-up.

Now if we could just get Zito and Mulder I would be pretty happy. (I'd like a big bat as well, but that's probably being greedy.)

by shrinking violet on Dec 10, 2006 8:47 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I AGREE
lofton os a great pickup. In fact he's just good as GMJ.

by forrest123 on Dec 10, 2006 9:06 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

What I love aout Lofton
are his home/road splits.
He hit .322 on the road last year away from his pitcher friendly home stadium.
Moving from Dodger stadium to Texas should help him out.
He's also shood be a good guy for the clubhouse.
I like the signing a whole lot more than the Payton one.
