Huge Potential Deal
Yesterday, Will Carroll said that a huge trade was about to go down and thought it was so close he didn't want to mention any names for fear of jinxing it. Today, he finally decided to throw out some names. I didn't expect any ranger to be a part of it, but as you can guess, he mentions teixeira as POTENTIALLY part of the deal. I don't see how trading him would help, our offense being what it is, but seeing as I have no idea what the return would be, I will just trust in JD for the time being. Discuss.

Well
"The deals appear to also have some other big names like Tim Hudson, Mark Teixeira, and Dontrelle Willis on the periphery"

No way
I'm not a proponent of trading Tex, but I'm glad JD seems to be at least listening to offers on him. If somebody wants to blow you away, let them.

Why are you all assuming a 6 team deal?
I don't see how dealing this team's primary offensive threat makes the team better. I hope there's nothing to this.

If we traded Teixeira without getting a big bat in
The offense isn't great right now and it would be flat out awful without Teixeira.

"but ur worshiping"?
As far as getting Willis, I don't know if we want his recent run-ins with the law to influence the players (Padilla and Blalock) that have so far only been rumored to party hard. Then again, we could use him at DH on his days off. How many homeruns would he hit with our short porch in right?

Tex Trade
The only way I would pull the trigger with the Braves would be for LaRoche, Jones, and their top pitching prospect for Teixeira and Hurley. This will never happen, but it would ease the pain of losing Tex.
by Allen13 on Dec 26, 2006 4:43 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
What about...
Tex and Aki for Jones, Hudson and LaRoche?
That'd open up some salary for the Braves while shoring up some needs (closer, cleanup hitter), give us another starter (albiet one with red flags), a big bat to hit cleanup (albiet one who can walk at the end of the year), and a good young first baseman.
That deal is never going to happen, but, in theory, I'd probably do that.
Would y'all?

His last two first halves?
But Teixeira hit .290/.362/.568 in the first half of 2005.
As for the "so many GREAT players" comment, the Rangers only have two players who could be reasonably described as great -- Teixeira and Young.

That said, this thread does include the ever so popular "just trust in JD" comment, and Adam's ever so present "no Teixeira trades", regardless of the return....

It is pure specualtion
As for me I would trade Tex and play Botts at 1B IF we could add Jones, and Willis or Hudson. The Rangers need another starter for thier rotation and the options are few. Jones is solid at the plate and in the field plus Botts could play 1B.
I know this is all just speculation but its better than taking back Christmas gifts that I did not want.

Three Team Trade
M. Cabrera to Atlanta with a Pirates throw in
Mike Gonzales to the Yankees
Andy LaRoche to the Pirates
Other sources say the Angels may be involved.

Oh he is, certainly
The occasional or seldom reported DUI's, the refreshing smile and demeanor that belie (?? who knows what). Add that to the notion that he'll draw a very long term at significant coin in the new baseball market, and you have a cocktail for self demolition.
Yeah, I know. Not likely. Give it three years and tell me if I'm wrong.

Why?
Teixeira is a better player. He's two years away from free agency, but Willis is three years away from free agency.
And I tend to question how successful he'll continue to be. 22nd in the N.L. last year in K/BB ratio, 21st in K/9, 6th in the N.L. in walks.
A young pitcher with peripherals like that generally has a difficult time sustaining his success.
Also, at this point, I don't see how trading hitting for starting pitching makes much sense anyway. Trading Teixeira creates a pretty huge hole in the middle of the lineup.
Anyway, this position on Willis isn't anything new, or particular to him...I said before last season that I wouldn't trade Ian Kinsler straight up for Dontrelle Willis.

This is pretty obvious...

Facts:
- The Braves are involved.
- The "complexity has increased..." = the Texas / ChiSox trade, meaning one of those teams has to be involved. (I'm guessing it's Texas)
I'd have to guess that there are some names involved like Tex, Otsuka, LaRoche, Chuck James, Andruw Jones, Tim Hudson...from the Texas and Braves camps, with a 3rd team trying to get involved (Tampa Bay, Pitt, Baltimore).
Would Texas be willing to give up Tex, Otsuka and Wilkerson if they were getting LaRoche, Jones and Hudson in return? I assume that the Braves would also get a CF-type along with another MR and an SP. I assume the Pirates could get involved offering Ollie Perez and Mike Gonzalez if they were getting Chuck James back in the deal. There's obviously more involved in that scenario, but it sure would be interesting.
Millwood, Hudson, Padilla, BMAC, Tejeda
Lofton (CF), Cat (LF), Young (SS), Jones (DH), Blalock (3B), LaRoche (1B), Cruz (RF), Kinsler (2B), Laird (C)

Sorry...
I'm not advocating the trade at all, I'm just wondering if there isn't something in the works that is along those lines. I definitely believe that there would have to be more (and/or different) pieces involved for a deal to be made.
Yep, screwed up on Perez. I guess you could throw Malholm into that discussion, since his name has been mentioned before.
In any case, I could see the Braves going after Tex as there have been rumors before. It will be interesting to see if anything happens there.
