Worth it?

Maybe I am need of happy hour, but I am getting tired of the complaints that the deals struck this off season are not worth the moeny involved.  Money is just a tool to be used not unlike toilet paper.  If someone can get $10M, $15M or $20M per year then good for him.  No one is forcing the owners to sign these contracts.  It is the free market at its finest.
If you want to win, and there are players available to help you do that then shame on the owners that do not get involved in this game.  I say the Cubs have had a great off season as they filled in the holes with available players.  Their team is better today than it was a couple of weeks ago.  I can not say the same thing about the Rangers.  There is still time for JD to make this team better but is options are getting fewer and fewer with each signing and trade.
Would I sign the Meche contract or a few others?  Maybe or maybe not.  I would if I thought it meant I could make my team better and it offered "value" to my organization.
Please quit whining about the money involved in these contracts.  Oh yeah only 3 hours 52 minutes til happy hour!

The relevant question
Are you willing to give up Danks/Hurley and Massett?  Add-ins after them are less valuable to the Rangers as well as potential recipient teams.

And those are the guys that would've headlined a deal for Garcia, and would work for Garland and Jennings.

The tale of this offseason is JD wants to hang onto them.

Seems like it's Zito or nothing at this point.

Agreed on the Zito or bust comment
And to clarify I was not talking about the prospects.  I was focussed on the money exclusively.  As for the prospects I agree with JD on keeping them.  IF Zito is signed then the prospects can develop fill in the #4 and 5 spots of the rotation and keep our pen stocked.  Not to mention they will be valuable trading chips when we need to make a trade mid season.  Sign Zito and have a decent rotation and everything else will be easier.

Money Complaining
IMO the complaining comes from the comparison of contracts signed this off-season vs what elite players are currently making.  For example, is Lugo worth 3X that of Michael Young?  If GMJ worth ~1.5X Vernon Wells?  I would think the answer to both those questions is a resounding NO.  So it is difficult or unreasonable to compare contracts signed a few years ago with contracts signed this off-season.

As you have stated, teams pay for what that think they need to get them to the play-offs.  If it means spending $50 MUSD over 5 years for the best centerfielder available, they do it.  I'm glad it is not my money.
