I'm beginning to think that something was up with Dellucci. Read this by Galloway...and then read Buck's quote in the Startlegram:
After I was critical of Daniels, and his credibility, in Sunday's column, several team insiders told me I should have aimed most of the heat at Buck Showalter, not Daniels.
Regardless, I continue to hear, and the Philly papers also were reporting Monday, that Tejeda for Dellucci was basically done two weeks ago, and the Rangers delayed it only because of injury issues in the outfield.
The Rangers are now saying Dellucci was traded because of the Adam Eaton injury last week. I believe Showalter wanted Dellucci gone all spring (for what reason, I don't know), and it was going to happen regardless of the Eaton injury.
Buck Showalter, who managed Dellucci in Arizona, said Sunday morning that he had exchanged voicemails with him after the trade.
"I don't want to say it's part of the business, because David's a little different [for me]," he said, "... But at the end of the day, I think we're a better organization."
On Sunday afternoon, Dellucci flatly contradicted Showalter, saying he had not heard from him but had heard from many players.
Could Buck's Boy be a traitor in some way? This doesn't make sense at all. Buck sounds miffed at Looch and it also sounds like he lied about contacting Dellucci. What is the inside story here? Was Dellucci leading the clubhouse in the wrong direction? Was Looch speaking out against Buck?
I believe that there is a huge story here...it's just that no one has figured it out yet.
