4/9/06 game day thread

Lineup up...

Brown in for Nix, Laird in for Barajas...

I think the Rangers are going to close out this very disappointing homestand with a win today...

Go Rangers...

Right
Because nothing spells win for the Rangers more than facing a quality lefthander.....

On the other hand,
if Rogers thinks its a big game, there is always the chance for a meltdown.

by DJCahill on Apr 9, 2006 12:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Listening to Tigers' announcers
"Laird doesn't have the same arm strength as Barajas. Hopefully the Tigers take advantage of that today".

Boy, are they in for a surprise.

by SteveP on Apr 9, 2006 1:23 PM CDT reply actions

Buck says:
"Let's have our guy batting .429 continue hitting 9th, it doesn't matter that nobody else can make contact."

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 1:50 PM CDT reply actions

And Laird gets a hit ...
... yep, since he can't hold Barajas' jock and all, we should definitely keep him on the bench.

by Athos on Apr 9, 2006 1:53 PM CDT reply actions

Kinsler
Only bright spot of the season.

by Mahon on Apr 9, 2006 1:53 PM CDT reply actions

Kinsler.
He's just a stud.  He reminds me of Young when Young was first up ... except that Kinsler can already hit.

by Athos on Apr 9, 2006 1:54 PM CDT reply actions

Blech
Wilkerson needs to be batting 7th or somethin'.

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 1:55 PM CDT reply actions

Why is Crapperson
still batting leadoff??? It is baffling.

by pblack on Apr 9, 2006 1:56 PM CDT reply actions

MY
The Rangers... hitting with people in scoring position...? amazed

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 1:56 PM CDT reply actions

BANG
MY.

Tie game.

Drive him in now, Tex.

by ghtd36 on Apr 9, 2006 1:56 PM CDT reply actions

Wilkserson
Sucks!  This guy is the worst player on the entire team right now.  Drop him in the order until he finds his swing.

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 1:56 PM CDT reply actions

Nevin
Has looked pretty solid so far.  MAYBE, just maybe, he still has something

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 1:58 PM CDT reply actions

Whoa
3 runs in an inning! And no homeruns! :o

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 2:02 PM CDT reply actions

Hank!
Nice shot against a quality lefty.

by Athos on Apr 9, 2006 2:02 PM CDT reply actions

HAMMER
Boom.

Rangers lead.

Off a lefty. A solid lefty.

by ghtd36 on Apr 9, 2006 2:02 PM CDT reply actions

Seeing Eye Hits
We are actually getting some now - maybe the worm has turned

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 2:03 PM CDT reply actions

Sweet but weird...
I don't like cheering for the battary of Rogers+Pudge to lose...

But it is nice to have a good inning.

by PatrickWalz on Apr 9, 2006 2:05 PM CDT reply actions

What are you doing here?
Shouldn't you be killing babies or something?

by Mahon on Apr 9, 2006 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions

This
is much better, maybe this will give them some momentum.

by pblack on Apr 9, 2006 2:06 PM CDT reply actions

Padilla
How many at bats has he started off with a 2-0 count?

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 2:16 PM CDT reply actions

Kinsler
Surprising that a rookie would be so obvious in his displeasure with the ump...

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 9, 2006 2:25 PM CDT reply actions

Boo
Wilkerson needs to make contact.

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 2:27 PM CDT reply actions

did I hear it correctly.
I just turned into the game....Wilk has 3 K in 4 AB.

Sheesh.

by simbaa on Apr 9, 2006 2:27 PM CDT reply actions

fantasy team
he is solely killing my fantasy team

by simbaa on Apr 9, 2006 2:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Wilkerson reminds me
of the country song "my give a damn is busted."  I have been strongly against the trade of Soriano for Wilky and magic beans primarily because we needed pitching in return.  Now that Wilky is batting .167 with 13 K's vs. 1 BB the fans are already turning on him.  While I like Wilky in general I think the Boo's should be given to Little Jonnie and Buck.

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 2:34 PM CDT reply actions

7 games...
That's enough to show that the trade was bad?

Besides, Wilkerson's acquisition allowed the team to be able to trade Dellucci for Robinson Tejeda...

If the Rangers had gotten Tejeda and Armando Galarraga for Soriano, would that have been okay?

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 9, 2006 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Not really
i think they still would have traded DD. What if Sori went to LF here?

by Longhorn on Apr 9, 2006 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Like I said I like Wilky but
He ain't gonna match Sori offense. And to watch Sori play LF for the Nats really bothera me.

Delucci got Tejada, and Wilky being here  had very little to do with that.  OF as of 5 months ago included Mench, GMJ, Delucci, Nix.  Delucci was traded (good trade) not because Wilky was here but because the Rnagers needed pitching and Delucci was the price.

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Put Soriano in left field...
...and there's probably no Padilla, given that Soriano is making as much as Wilkerson and Padilla combined...

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 9, 2006 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions

I said probably...
Unless you really think Hicks would have increased payroll another $5 million to keep Soriano around?

As it is, they supposedly went above Hicks' budget to sign Millwood...

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 9, 2006 3:00 PM CDT up reply actions

So...
if you put a crappy player in that allows you to trade a contributing player it is the same as not ever having the contributing player?  VERY CONFUSING.

How about Soriano and Dellucci for Tejeda and Galarrage, because right now Craperson value is negative

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 2:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Craperson
Come on.

7 games into the season, and he's got negative value?

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 9, 2006 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Craperson
I still think the guy turns it around,  but right now he is terrrrrrrrrrrible.  Even you, as his biggest supporter, have to admit he has as much to do with our start as any player on the team

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Sure
But it doesn't make the Soriano trade bad.

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 9, 2006 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Soriano Trade
I still agree on that point, because Soriano's 10M had to go.

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 2:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Craperson
  I prefer Wifferson.

Did you hear the Detroit announcer say that Verlander was better than Beckett and Schilling? Easy there, quickdraw. He looked real good, but slow your roll a little...

"I could be wrong-but I'm not." Dan Jenkins

by Brian Thomas on Apr 9, 2006 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Wilky
I think Wilkerson will turn it around, he's just not swinging well right now and shouldn't be batting leadoff.

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 2:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Craperson
This guy is aweful!  He might be the worst player in all of baseball.  Why do we have an AUTOMATIC out at the top of the order?

Come on MENCH!!!!  Drive it!

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 2:41 PM CDT reply actions

True point on Mench.
What really bothers me is he is sucking playing RF.  Thought he would be a plus defensively in right but not so far.

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions

PR?
What happened to the Power Rangers? When's the last time we hit a homerun?

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 2:43 PM CDT reply actions

SWUNG AT A BAD PITCH...
he seems over anxious, does he have the patience and discipline to hit .280 and be a .350 on base guy?  i dont think so, its why i have alsways been dissatisfied with him.  i would have rather seen the rangers part with him instead of looch.

by jacksastud on Apr 9, 2006 2:44 PM CDT reply actions

He is over paid and no one wants
that contract right now.  He is hitting well enough to give me hope.

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions

DD and Nevin
And so would the Rangers rather have traded DD instead of Nevin, but the Phillies I am sure werent interested.  People keep forgetting Nevin is CHoP.  Give me Nevin anytime over CHoP!

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 2:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Botts
2-run HR, Matthews seems to be hitting well for OKC

Galarraga - 3 K's thru 2 SO IP

by shroomer on Apr 9, 2006 2:48 PM CDT reply actions

How much more for Padilla today
he is right now at 100 pitches...granted it is a cool day...maybe one more inning?

by simbaa on Apr 9, 2006 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions

dream redo...
we keep hafner as he is our dh/spot 1st baseman and we have traded mench for some sort of pitching.  i sure hope durazo comes back around. we are most def gonna need another left handed bat from some where

by jacksastud on Apr 9, 2006 2:49 PM CDT reply actions

Shroooooooooom
Miss your inning by inning minor league calls!  Much appreciated if you decide to bring them back my friend

by jsp1185 on Apr 9, 2006 2:51 PM CDT reply actions

how bout 8 outta 17 mister lewin?
kinsler is a hoss. still hasnt struck out?

by jacksastud on Apr 9, 2006 2:53 PM CDT reply actions

Scorekeeper
Must be on Buck's payroll....Laird should have had a hit there.

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 2:54 PM CDT reply actions

good time
for Wilkerson to break out

by jsp1185 on Apr 9, 2006 2:54 PM CDT reply actions

always down in tha count 0-2 wilk?
start swinging at those early strikes..... way to recover though

by jacksastud on Apr 9, 2006 2:55 PM CDT reply actions

Thats what
I was talking about!

by jsp1185 on Apr 9, 2006 2:55 PM CDT reply actions

Wilkerson
And I shelve the Craperson for now...nice one

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 2:55 PM CDT reply actions

A meaningful hit with RBI's to boot
Hopefull a sign of things to come and not just a fluke.  Shock value stat of the day.  Wilky 13 K's so far vs. Kinsler's 17 AB's sof far.  SHOCK VALUEEEE!

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 2:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Ditto
good hit for Wilkerson, that bought him a couple more crappy games if that ends up being the GW hit.

by pblack on Apr 9, 2006 2:58 PM CDT up reply actions

been hitting the ball hard...so hopefully he makes them regret it

Nevin
REALLY needs to come through here

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 3:01 PM CDT reply actions

Huge at Bat for Nevin
A hit here goes a long way to improving image of disaster from 05.

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 3:02 PM CDT reply actions

Nevin
Shouldn't be cleanup.

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Some at bats count more than others
That was a huge AB and yes Nevin get's an F for that weak grounder.

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 3:04 PM CDT up reply actions

Sweet pitch.
Alfonseca this years bullpen hero???

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 3:10 PM CDT reply actions

Alfonseca
And we got a 6 finger discount on him.

by Mike Simonek on Apr 9, 2006 3:10 PM CDT reply actions

Off subject
I feel like such a redneck when I see Ranger fans dancing to fiddles.

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 3:15 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah but....

Cooperstown
Let me echoe Josh and Tom's comment that it is a place all baseball fans should visit.  Awesome and quaint little town.

by Bigfan16 on Apr 9, 2006 3:17 PM CDT reply actions

Strikeout Brown.
I want Laird leading off next inning.

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 3:18 PM CDT reply actions

Kinsler
For Rookie of the year.

by hiafex on Apr 9, 2006 3:28 PM CDT reply actions

1st K
It was a really good pitch that he struck out on.

It's about time!
Glad for the Rangers to get another win!

by rangeressary on Apr 9, 2006 3:43 PM CDT reply actions

Yay!
Very well put, AJM. Yay indeed. Go Rangers.

by ghtd36 on Apr 9, 2006 3:45 PM CDT up reply actions

A win ...
... what a novel concept.

Another good outing from Padilla.  And Laird contributes directly to the win with a pair of hits and a couple of runs.

Better bench him before he show Rod ... and Buck ... up again.

by Athos on Apr 9, 2006 3:44 PM CDT reply actions

Way to Go Rangers!!!
Can we say yet that Padilla may have been one of the steals of the offseason. Padilla for Ricardo Rodriguez...are you kidding me?  Early returns say it was JD's best move.

by pblack on Apr 9, 2006 3:45 PM CDT reply actions

Wikly
4 Ks?? By the way, another Double and another HR for Sori today...

by Longhorn on Apr 9, 2006 3:51 PM CDT reply actions

Actual Conversation
The following conversation just occurred between myself and my roommate Justin, from Chicago:

Me: Rangers win. Kenny Rogers can blow me.

Justin: Oh, you guys beat Kenny Rogers?

Me: Yeah. It felt good.

Justin: Well, at least he didn't beat anybody.

Me: He hasn't left Arlington yet. He still has time.

by ghtd36 on Apr 9, 2006 3:56 PM CDT reply actions

good game
was at the game, was good to see the rangers aiming for the gaps and not just swinging for the fences.
several of those hits would have easily been hr's though had the wind been blowing.

kinsler eyeing the ump made me laugh.

and i got to boo at kenny rogers, oddly enough i watched him warm up in the pen before the game...and i saw the cameraman he assaulted walking by.

Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

well...
i was working all afternoon, but i came home to good news! just finished reading all the comments, i suppose i could watch the highlights since i have mlb.tv...

rogers
it was a mixed reception
i was walking in the in the concession area when they announced his name in the lineups, and it sounded really split, but when he came onto the mound i was in my seats and heard maybe 60% boo's
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!
