Anyone watching the Cavs game right now?

I've watched a lot of basketball on TV, and i have never heard any arena as loud as it is in Cleveland right now...

47-41
End of the first half.

Duncan, Bowen, Ginobli, and Horry all have 3 fouls. Unfortunately, so do Howard & Diop.

If the Mavs can cut the sloppy play on offense, they're going to win this in a rout.

DIRK!
He is playing his ass off on every possession. 17rebounds in the 3rd is amazing.

There i absolutely
no reason why the Mavs shouldn't get Dirk a touch on every offensive possession...he's good.

Ok, wonderboy. You're big, I'm little.

I'll bet you are one of those telephone tough guys, guys that run their mouth when there's no chance of repercussions.

You have said many truly stupid things on this board, some to me, and I have never resorted to calling you names. Most of this I attribute to the fact that you are 21, and most 21-year-olds are fool enough to think they they are the one exception that figures it all out 15 years early. Do me the same courtesy. Only maroons resort to name-calling...

Turning Point
I will tell you right now that the turning point is when Devin Harris got the breakaway, and was called for an offensive "foul" for "pushing off" Bruce Bowen. One of the worst calls I have ever seen, and it happens because Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan continue to whine and complain on EVERY call.

Someone should be fired. Or shot. One of the two.

Officiating Crew?
What did they have to do with this?

Seriously.

by Chris Hanes on May 19, 2006 11:37 PM CDT up reply actions

The Harris offensive foul
Tim Duncan getting a call every time he touches the ball within 100 feet of the basket.

Robert Horry continuing to get away with throwing elbows.

Dirk being fouled three times during one scramble for the ball, and there being zero fouls called.

Shall I go on?

I'm not saying the refs are solely to blame, but they gave the Spurs a better opportunity to win than the Mavs.

by ghtd36 on May 19, 2006 11:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Guess I disagree
I saw nothing really wrong with the officiating.  It's frustrating with all the fouls on whoever is guarding Duncan, but you know that's going to happen.  We had a few calls that I thought went our way so I think it all evens out.

Bottom line, Dirk was not selfish enough and looked to pass throughout the whole game as soon as he touched the ball.  Most of the time he had Finley guarding him, which is a bad mismatch that he did not take advantage of often enough.  Don't get me wrong, he had a great game going 9-16 but there's no reason for this:

Harris 3-14
Stackhouse 4-15

They should not be shooting as much as our All-Star.

by Chris Hanes on May 19, 2006 11:45 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree
I wish Dirk got alittle more selffish and shot more because he could have a field day with Finley on him.
F Duncan

by miles on May 19, 2006 11:47 PM CDT up reply actions

let me see
San Antonio 34 FTs
Dallas 20 FTs

USUALLY, the home team gets some calls, and if this was in the past few years, I could still see how this could be the case because Dallas was a jumpshooting team, but Dallas attacked the basket non-stop tonight.

I still can't believe how badly the refs didn't want to give Duncan a 5th foul when he kept hammering Devin Harris everytime he entered the lane.

by willamos2 on May 19, 2006 11:47 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think so...
The turning point was Dirk passing the ball the whole night long while being the only one to make a shot.

by Chris Hanes on May 19, 2006 11:37 PM CDT up reply actions

More of the same...
Makes me sick to see guys put out that much effort and have the officials stop them at every turn.  As bad as the last game was, this had to have been worse because of how blatently the officials called the game for the Spurs.  I'm not a conspiracy theorist guy, and you all know this, but is there any way not to say that the NBA decides what big games they want?  Or at least they do their best to get them?

by altercall on May 19, 2006 11:43 PM CDT reply actions

The officials...
made Dallas shoot 38% from the field?  I don't think so, nor do I think the SA defense did it to them.  They just stunk up the joint with their shooting tonight.

by Chris Hanes on May 19, 2006 11:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Yet
it all goes back to the league.  Jason Terry was suspended, we need him.  Tell me I am wrong, but it is wrong to have suspentions in such a close and tight series in the second round fo the playoffs.  Its stupid and bogus.
F Duncan

by miles on May 19, 2006 11:48 PM CDT up reply actions

The timing sucked..
no doubt.  But if it had been Parker that punched Terry and Parker did not get suspended, Dallas fans would be going nuts.

A rule is a rule.

Terry should have known better.

by Chris Hanes on May 19, 2006 11:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Ok...
A rule is a rule?  How about just fining Terry 100k?  Finley pushed Dirk and was talking trash and what happened to him?  Just admit that this would never happen to a Spurs player because it would not...
F Duncan

by miles on May 19, 2006 11:54 PM CDT up reply actions

You can not fine him..
The rule is in black and white.  If you take a punch whether it connects or not it is an automatic one game suspension.

End of story.

Stupidity on Terry's fault.

by Chris Hanes on May 19, 2006 11:57 PM CDT up reply actions

So?!!?
Two people were sitting on him and would not get off of him, if they did that to me I would have thrown them to the floor!  Tell me...If Duncan did this would he be suspended?
F Duncan

by miles on May 20, 2006 12:00 AM CDT up reply actions

Re: So?!!?
Now you're speaking hypothetically Miles.  I would hope that Duncan would get suspended as well.

Also, this whole two people sitting on him or Finley driving his hip into his head, that is all BS.  Finley did not drive his hip into his head, and you know from watching Finley here for 9 years that he is not that type of player.  It was a tense part of the game and you had three players going after one ball and one of those players lost their cool for no good reason, and ultimately may have cost his team this series.

by Chris Hanes on May 20, 2006 12:04 AM CDT up reply actions

How is
a fine not sufficient for Terry then?  You said it was a tense part of the game.
F Duncan

by miles on May 20, 2006 12:08 AM CDT up reply actions

So I guess...
Since Horry threw his sholder into Dirk while he was hurt, Horry should be suspended?  He made contact and it was a malicious and intentional act.  I want to see that!

by altercall on May 19, 2006 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions

I didn't see that..
but once again, that is not a punch so it is not a clear cut suspension IF he indeed did do it.

by Chris Hanes on May 19, 2006 11:59 PM CDT up reply actions

The Spurs
get away with so much shit its not even funny.  Bowen is a dumbshit with no talent that is good of dirty playing.

Out With Stern

by miles on May 20, 2006 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Apparently
you didn't watch the game very closely.  When Dirk hurt his should and was hunched over Horry walked over to him and clearly threw his should out and hit Dirk in his injured shoulder as he walked by.  Plain as day.

And actually, it is debatabe whether what Terry did was a punch, unless you consider anything you do with a closed fist a punch.  Terry didn't draw back his arm at all.  If it were a punch, by the traditional meaning of the term, it would have caused some pain.

by altercall on May 20, 2006 12:06 AM CDT up reply actions

There
wasn;t even enough evidence to say that it was that harmful, his fist was not clinched.  Its the league assuming, which is the number one nono ever.  But its against hte Spurs so, poor Spurs!
F Duncan

by miles on May 20, 2006 12:10 AM CDT up reply actions

YES!!!!
When Josh Howard is getting shoved, or undercut, or bodies up on every inside shot, and Harris is getting fould on half his drives and they COMBINE for 2 FTs?  How could that not affect your shooting?  Granted, Stack was terrible, but what's the incentive for our guys to go inside when they get fouled and nothing gets called?  Is it harder to make an inside shot that you are fouled on or a contested jumpshot?  Tough decision, right?

The refs played a HUGE part in this game, only Spurs fans didn't see that.  Ya'll probably think ya'll still got the short end of the straw.

4 FOULS IN THE SECOND HALF????

I'm a Mavs fan
Not sure if you were aiming your remark or me or not, but I just wanted to point out that I am a diehard Mavs fan that sweated out this game just like you.  I just didn't see much to bitch about in the officiating.

by Chris Hanes on May 19, 2006 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Did you see
any of Howards shots?  He had someone under him on almost every one, or he went flying away from the direction that he took off from.  I'm sorry, but those are fouls.  How about Harris getting clobbered over and over by Duncan with no fouls called while on the other end Ginobili gets fouls called because he drops the ball?  How about Harris getting called for an offensive foul when Bowen is behind him holding onto him?  How about Dirk getting his shirt hekd on 3 put back attempts without a foul called?  How about 4 fouls against 14 in the 2nd half?  How about 3 FTs to 15 in the 2nd half?  How about Finley being allowed to headbut the ball to the sideline after a dunk without even a delay of game?  How about Ginobili being given a warning about stepping over the line AFTER an out of bounds play was stopped without a delay of game?  How about all of Ginobili's traveling violations not being called in the second half?

And that's not to mention the junk calls that they give Duncan every game that we've grown accustomed to.  Should I continue?

by altercall on May 20, 2006 12:02 AM CDT up reply actions

Yes
the officials had a lot to do with Dallas' poor shooting night.

When a foul is called on a shot, that FGA doesn't count towards their FG% unless it is made.

If Dallas had, in effect, not taken 7 more FGA (because the refs would have called 7 more shooting fouls on SA), then Dallas' FG% would have been 42%.

by willamos2 on May 20, 2006 7:48 AM CDT up reply actions

Why?
Have you seen the ratings on the Spurs Finals games? Pretty freak'n low.
OMG...WTF!!!

by Andrew F Medina on May 19, 2006 11:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Plain and simple
I dont think that the Mavs have what it takes to win big games in the playoffs. What the hell was Dirk thinking shooting that 3? In game 5 Dirk has to know how much time is on the clock at the end of the game. Cant really blame the refs for a lot. The ref's have blown but you still have to put the ball in the hole at key times.

leave it at...Stern better hope that the Mavs win the series...really hope...

SO...
Booing Finley was really classless. Utterly, utterly classless. His postgame interview made me happy as a Spurs fan, and made me damn angry as a human being.

by FirebatM3 on May 20, 2006 12:26 AM CDT reply actions

Fire
dude chill with all the high heaven class stuff.  Finley was being booed because of the Terry incident.  ANY TEAMS FANS would boo in the same situation.  That is fact.

I am not going to whine about the officials.  Dallas tried to play San Antonio's game, and got beat.  They should have put it away and they didn't.  I hope they can turn it on in game 7, but not betting on it.

That aside all your classless this and that talk is crap, and you know it.  If the roles were reversed San Antonio fans would be doing the same thing.  Period.  End of Story.

Cuban should have never bad mouthed the riverwalk, and some of the other things he says.  He gets so emotional he runs his mouth just like all of us here on this board.  He just has a bigger audience.

by Mike Simonek on May 20, 2006 2:09 AM CDT reply actions

Nope
Why would Finley get booed for the Terry thing. Somebody got punched, and it wasn't Jason Terry. Jason Terry has no one to blame but himself for being such a dumbass.

This is the equivalent of Spurs fans booing Sean Elliot after the Spurs traded away his contract. It just shows a lack of respect for former players.

by FirebatM3 on May 20, 2006 2:13 AM CDT up reply actions

well
like the saying goes, fans root for laundry.
right or wrong, its the nature of sports it seems. arod gets booed when he comes back to texas, hell...he gets booed at yankee stadium too.
booing a former player while not in terrific taste isnt really classless.
booing the canadian anthem in a stanley cup playoff series THAT is classless.

and im sick of all the bitching about fouls....first it was spurs fans, now its mav's fans. face it, someone is going to be screwed by the ref's....you can't get all the calls every night.

i didnt see the entire game, just part of the third, and all of the fourth...and from what i saw, the mavs didnt because of bad calls, they lost because stack and harris couldnt shoot...and no one could stop the spurs from driving.

Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!
