Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

4 fouls in the second half?

That's right, according to Benett Salvatore and his flock of blind mice, the Spurs played one of the cleanest halves in league playoff history.  In that same time period, the Mavericks were whistled for 14 fouls and the Spurs hhad a 15-3 FT shooting advantage.  Anyone else get a whiff of an overflowing septic tank?

Welcome to David Stern's league!  Makes you glad that MLB umpires are the calibre of NBA refs, right?

This series
is rigged, lets put it at that.  Tim Duncan will get every call he wants, when he doesn't I wonder why.  Dirk gets fouled and injured, I am surprised when the foul is called.

Before this
series I thought David Stern was the second best Comish in Sports.  Now Bud Selig is looking like a king with no disrespect to him at all because I have never had a problem with him.

Stern
I've always thoughht he has ruined the NBA.  He's encouraged the hip-hop and gansta attitudes that it's all about me and nobody matters as long as I get mine.  He's killed the game by going to the star system and forcing the game into a one-on-one contest.  Basketball is the only sport where I think you can truely say that the college product is a better game.

by altercall on May 20, 2006 12:21 AM CDT up reply actions

The Mavs
will change that when they win against the Spurs and tell him to shut his mouth and let us play.  OUT WITH STERN!

I'm wondering
Do the Mavs need to start whinning after every posession?  I mean, you look at the two biggest whinning teams in the league, the Pistons and the Spurs, and they are the "best" defenses and have the best record.  Maybe that's the secret of teh NBA, whine your way to success.

by altercall on May 20, 2006 12:18 AM CDT reply actions

True...
But I don't want to be looked at such as the dumbass Spurs, but it might be the only way to win a championship in this league...

Wow
it's just a pathetic two-person whinefest. Blame it on 4-13 stackhouse or a 3-15 Harris. I will be glad when the Mavs are eliminated, whether it is by San  Antonio, Phenoix/LA, or whatever team that comes out of the LEastern Conference.

seeing Mavs fans boo Michael Finley, Cuban do some of the most classless things I have ever seen, Terry go for cheapshots and Stackhouse's cheap toughness, I am really an anti-Mavs fan right now. Seriously, really sad display tonight.

Also, Jason Terry should be apologizing to the Player he took a cheapshot at, not the team.

As lopsided as the calls were in the 2nd half ...
... that wasn't the difference in the game.  The Mavs quit driving the basket for almost all of the 3rd quarter.  They started taking very low-percentage shots and weren't putting the Spurs into positions where they had to foul.

There is no excuse for the Mavs playing like they played tonight.  In that game, with everything that it meant, playing that sloppy is inexcusable.  All things being equal, they are a better team than the Spurs, but they keep letting the Spurs hang around long enough to wrest the game away.  The refs didn't help, but this loss is on the Mavs.

by Athos on May 20, 2006 12:29 AM CDT reply actions

I'm sorry,
I respectfully disagree.  When the refs are that bad, it has a huge impact on the way the players play.  The Mavs did take it to the basket at times, but they never got the calls when they got fouled.  Players know those things.  Knowingly or not, they aren't going to go inside and take a shot they know they'll get fouled on when they can try to make something outside.  Horrible officiating can play a huge part, unfortunately.

You may disagree, but I have seen it first hand.  I've worked as an official.  I've worked with guys that were idiots when it came to their job.  I also know that teams change what they do when they don't get the right calls over and over.  I've seen much more talented teams get beaten because they can't do what they are best at because some guy is sitting on his thumbs.  It's disappointing, but it happens.

Out With Stern

by miles on May 20, 2006 12:40 AM CDT up reply actions

Still, blaming the officiating ...
... is a loser's attitude.  They definitely missed some calls tonight.  And Duncan's little technique of jamming a lead shoulder into a defender, then shooting, is rewarded waaaaaaayyyyyyy to much with whistles, but the officials didn't make the Mavs turn the ball over time after time.  Stack and Harris shot horribly, which was their own fault.  They had several opportunities early in this game to put the aged Spurs away and they didn't take advantage of them.  There's no excuse for not pushing their lead into double-digits while Duncan is sitting on the bench in foul trouble.

I feel pretty good about Game 7.  Assuming that the horrible officiating negatively affects both teams about equally, the Mavs can win that game.

by Athos on May 20, 2006 12:48 AM CDT up reply actions

You know
what's really great about this series? It has given us some of the FINEST Spurs post-game interviews I have ever seen. I think Tim Duncan and others are genuinely pissed off.

My favorite

"I have nothing to say to or about Mark Cuban" - Tim Duncan in reference to the most pathetic owner in Sports.

"We'll see who's glaring in the end." - Tim Duncan in reference to Jerry Stackhouses flagrant on Michael Finley and consequent pointless posing.

"I heard traitor. For what? Being Cut? I heard cheater. For what? Getting punched?" - Michael Finley on the second most classless fandom in Sports.

by FirebatM3 on May 20, 2006 12:40 AM CDT reply actions

Why are you on this board?
Do you realize that the people you are calling classless are also Rangers fans, almost an exact overlap.  If you hate Mavericks fans so much, maybe you should find a diferent baseball team so you don't have to sit next to us at the Ranger's games.

by altercall on May 20, 2006 12:42 AM CDT up reply actions

I root
for the Rangers not because of the fans, but because the team is filled with truly great players who are pretty good guys. I don't see that with the Mavs. I'm sure if the Rangers fans began booing Jim Sunderberg or Pudge or something, I'd be pretty pissed.

by FirebatM3 on May 20, 2006 12:45 AM CDT up reply actions

by altercall on May 20, 2006 1:02 AM CDT up reply actions

FYI
Mavs fans cheared him wildly in the regular season.  Most Mavericks fans a very appreciative of what he did here.  The reason they boo him is because he went to our 1 big rival and it is nw the playoffs.  They want him to not feel comfortable here.  I don't know what diots have been saying stuff like that to him or his family, but there are drunks like that everywhere.  Who knows if it's even true?  I haven't heard anything like that from Finley and our resident Mavs hates in the media haven't said anythnig about that.

If the Mavs win
I'll still be around, and I'll own up. And I won't try to create phantom excuses. 38% guys. 38%.

If you guys shot like 60%, guy a great night from your superstar, great night from role players and had a series of bad calls go against you in the final seconds that completely shifted momentum, then I'll buy ref complaints as legitimate. Until that happens, own up. The Mavs made some stupid moves tonight.

by FirebatM3 on May 20, 2006 12:48 AM CDT up reply actions

Ummm
what?  If you shoot 60% and have a great night from everyone, which to me means great D, there's no way you lose.  Refs don't affect the game much at the end.  It you let the game be that close so that it is decided in the end, don't blame the refs, blame yourself for letting it get that close and leaving it in their hands.  The place refs make a difference is when they make consistantly bad calls that clearly favor one team.  That's why the only sport, SB not withstanding, that has major issues about the perception of their refs is the NBA.

by altercall on May 20, 2006 12:54 AM CDT up reply actions

your own advice. Don't let the refs be an excuse, blame yourself.
