Lineup
Honestly, I can't really fault this lineup against a lefty. Nevin hits lefties well, and Derosa, as much as I loathe the idea of him, has been going pretty good, and he's a much better defensive OF than Mench in right since he can actually throw the ball with actual forward velocity.

re:
I can fault the lineup, but I can't be too surprised to see Buck get his new favorite guy in the lineup. Actually I'm in favor of Derosa playing agaisnt LHP, but rest the rookie who has never faced him like Kinsler, or slot Young at DH and put Derosa in at SS to give him a rest, instead of benching our best hitter this month in Wilkerson who also can hit lefties.

DeRosa
I am confused why you loathe the idea of DeRosa?
He is hitting .337 in 26 games thus far.  Although he has only had 17 ab vs lefties this year, he is hitting .417 vs them, so why not start him vs Zito.  Why would you not want one of our best hitters this season playing everyday?  If he starts sucking then you should get on his case...but he isn't.  He is hitting better than almost everyone on team, so get off his freakin' back.

re:
I don't think Derosa should be starting in place of Wilkerson, who has also had a great month, and who has lefties better than righties so far this year. I think most are in favor of Derosa playing against lefties and resting some of the everyday guys but his line against righties the last three seasons is horrible and he has never really hit righties at all in his career, so playing him everyday will greatly overexpose his weaknesses.

by jcir454 on May 27, 2006 6:24 PM CDT up reply actions

He should
be starting over WIlk when wilk is day to day with a sore wrist.

by Agreen07 on May 27, 2006 6:39 PM CDT up reply actions

After a 0-5er
When is Laid going to play...bench Wilky, he's good against lefties & he's hot right now, this is piss poor...JD needs to fire Buck soon. This is pathetic.

OT: Arod
padding those stats. Nice.

Freddy Guzman
Why has he been consistently batting 9th in the order at OK if he's supposed to be the Rangers' lead-off gnat of the future?  Wouldn't you AT LEAST want him to get the extra AB's per week he'd get at the top of the order?

I don't get it.

by shroomer on May 27, 2006 5:58 PM CDT reply actions

That's where
Buck believes a speedster goes.  Not so much the 2nd leadoff guy, but if the #9 guy gets on base for the top of the lineup to move, and can outrun a prairie wildfire, chances are good he'll score.

So in theory, anyway.

by Ed Coffin on May 27, 2006 6:05 PM CDT up reply actions

I figured something like that ...
... but it still baffles me why you'd take developmental AB's away from somebody by not raising them higher in the order.  They did that to AGon last season - batting him 6th lots of nights.  Maybe I'm overestimating the number of AB's per week a batter loses at the back of the order.  I can see how you might want a batter to get used to the 'feel' of being a 9th place hitter if you plan on calling him up and using him, but with Matthews on a tear at the plate, I don't see Guzman getting much more that a Adrian Brown type roll with the big club any time soon.  Baffling to me.

Diamond's 1st inning vs Springfield Cards
Quick K
soft shallow flyball out to CF
5-3 grounder - won foul-off battle after 0-2 start

pretty quick and easy - dozen pitches or so
score 0-0

Masset's getting a spot start tonight for OKC while Rheinecker's with the Rangers.  Phillips and Kometani also start tonight.

by shroomer on May 27, 2006 6:23 PM CDT reply actions

Diamond's 2nd inning
weak 5-3 groundout
easy 6-3 groundout - shattered bat
1st pitch long HR down LF line - pfft
2nd pitch HR to LF - pfft squared
pop-out to C

TD was cruising along and biff! bam! it's 2-0 just like that.  He's up to about 35 pitches.

2.0 IP, 2 hits, 2 runs, 0 BB, 1 SO, 2 HR's

We'll see if TD can collect his mojo between innings.

by shroomer on May 27, 2006 6:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Diamond's 3rd Inning
RR's put 5 runs on the board for TD, featuring an Enrique Cruz 3-run HR.  Has TD's head re-aligned with ball?

6-3 groundout - nice play by Cruz
swinging K - 1-2 count
swinging K - offspeed pitch of some sort

Nice quick inning - up to around 45 pitches probably.

3 IP, 2 hits, 2 runs, 0 BB, 3 SO, 2 HR's
score 5-2 RR's - no hint of wildness

Masset gave up 5 runs in the 1st vs N.O.  bleah

by shroomer on May 27, 2006 7:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Diamond's 4th inning
5-3 groundout - fullcount - started 0-2
deep flyout to RF - started 0-2 again
line-out to SS

TD has settled down nicely.

4 IP, 2 hits, 2 runs, 0 BB, 3 SO, 2 HR's
up to maybe 60 pitches

Nix didn't start for OK for some reason.  hmmmm...

by shroomer on May 27, 2006 7:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Diamond's 5th Inning
Score is 6-2 RR's

5-pitch walk - mighta pitched around slugger
another walk - pc visits mound
1-3 sac bunt - runners to 2nd and 3rd
4-3 groundout - run scores, runner to 3rd, 2 outs
K-looking - fullcount

A little wild, but wasn't punished too bad.

5 IP, 2 hits, 3 runs, 2 BB, 4 SO, 2 HR's
score 6-3, TD clocked at 97 mph that inning - zowie!

by shroomer on May 27, 2006 7:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Diamond's 6th Inning
Richardson hit a tater - score now 7-3 RR's.
Radio guy just said Jared Weaver is debuting for the LAA's tonight.

K-swinging - won a foul-off battle
flyout deep RF
walk - 3-1 count - mound visit
4-3 groundout

Diamond might be done - Frisco bullpen was stirring.
3 runs on 2 hits is tough luck, but that's life.
A good outing, very little wildness.  Clocked at 97 mph.

6 IP, 2 hits, 3 runs, 3 BB, 5 SO, 2 HR's

by shroomer on May 27, 2006 7:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Diamond's done
Somebody named Mike Bumstead took over.  Bumstead will probably swap roster spots with Masset in AAA after this game.

by shroomer on May 27, 2006 8:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Lineup
Why if a guy goes 1-21, will Buck remember the one and foget the 0-20.  This team needs to replace him, the way i figure any one that pays one bit of attention to the game could do a better job than buck

by stoney022 on May 27, 2006 6:27 PM CDT reply actions

I assume...
you're refering to Nevin.  He's hitting the southpaws well though.  Chill people.  It's a long season and it's good if we don't have our guys playing 162.

Botts will DH tomorrow, Laird will catch, and Wilky will be back out there.  Mark it.

isnt on or it is going to be a long night.

Loe predictions
Anyone still predicting a sub-4.00 ERA for Loe this season?

by Dustin on May 27, 2006 7:17 PM CDT reply actions

He is looking
Awful plain. Where is Adam Eaton.

by TexGoesYard on May 27, 2006 7:22 PM CDT up reply actions

He's just inconsistent.
At times he's looked very good this year, but consistency will come later.  I was just calling out the overly-optimistic.

by Dustin on May 27, 2006 7:25 PM CDT up reply actions

dammit
This is the second time I've pressed some sequence of buttons that posts the post before I'm done.

I was going to add that he's obviously still one of the better pitchers they have, inconsistent or not.

by Dustin on May 27, 2006 7:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Kameron Loe
Is unstoppable. Just like I said.

by TexGoesYard on May 27, 2006 7:27 PM CDT reply actions

Mench has common sense!
Wait for 2 strikes, you know the curveball is coming. Jack it.

by TexGoesYard on May 27, 2006 7:35 PM CDT reply actions

And that 1...
seemed to be just a slap.  A slap that was over the wall for the walk-off, but seemed to me to be a reaching slap none-the-less.  Uh...he needs to be sat down, IMO.

He will be 1 for his last 27.

...anyone have any idea what DeRosa was doing there?

by tlt29 on May 27, 2006 8:12 PM CDT reply actions

maybe
he was daydreaming about the giant log he dropped before the game?

by jcir454 on May 27, 2006 8:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Derosa
0-2, 2K

I'm beginning to think Wilk and his "sore wrist" could do batter than that...

by jcir454 on May 27, 2006 8:12 PM CDT reply actions

Loe's pitching
was unstoppable tonight (by Rod's mitt).  A's bats seemed to stop it ok though.  Inconsistent.  Could have been a lot worse.

by alwfan on May 27, 2006 8:37 PM CDT reply actions

I always thought
That the minor leagues is where you're suppose to learn how to control your pitches, and work on your mechanics... not the majors.

by hiafex on May 27, 2006 8:37 PM CDT reply actions

Wiiiillllllssssooonnnnn!
Oh no.  CJ.  Maybe he pitches to one batter tonight and that's it.  Right?

by alwfan on May 27, 2006 8:39 PM CDT reply actions

I did that to DeRosa
In that Angels game I think... When he hit the double down the line when the bases were loaded.

by hiafex on May 27, 2006 8:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Nice
He really should stop admiring his shots, though.

by tlt29 on May 27, 2006 8:44 PM CDT reply actions

botts
might as well send him back to AAA. 2 hr's in 3 games by nevin means botts he will be sitting every game
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

Phil

swisher
got beaned, looked accidental, as feldmans show a little control issues tonight.
swisher just stood there looking at feldman.
acting like it was payback for tex taking one on the arm.
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

by rentz on May 27, 2006 9:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Nice.
i do hope it was on purpose though, our pitchers need to start protecting our hitters...

by Longhorn on May 27, 2006 9:20 PM CDT up reply actions

why?
the pitch tex took on the arm was clearly accidental, curveball seemed to get away from zito.
however... i would have liked to have seen someone beaned last night after kinsler was hit on the first pitch of his first at bat after hitting 2 hr's the night before
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!
