Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

A couple of troubling streaks

Phil Nevin is 2 for his last 27, with a walk.

During the three game stretch that Buck Showalter wanted to give him at DH, he was 2 for 14, although both hits were homers.

I have to think Jason Botts is going to start getting the majority of the DH ABs.

And, just as Mark Teixeira has started heating up, Michael Young has fallen into a slump...he's 1 for his last 19, and his OPS has dropped below 800...

That makes to much sense
The only reason you would think that is because you pay attention to the games.  no way buck is going to do that since the two hits nevin has are home runs, mo matter how costly is 25 outs have been.

i dont think so
as much as buck drives me crazy he knows that nevin is not the answer, especially against right handed pitching. if nevin were the answer buck would have never agreed to call up botts (though i really think it was a jd decision anyway). if the right situation presents itself the rangers will trade nevin provided that his no trade clause will not be enacted (does anyone know how his works?)
Botts could kick Nevin's ass

nevin
Who is going to want a 220 hitting guy with a 10 million dollar contract, no one wants nevin, there is no right trade situation to present itself.

It's funny that
in the mid-80's, we'd be calling Nevin's year All-Star quality (Rob Deer & Cecil Fielder, etc.)  Shows how different the game is now.

but
you know his opinion of having two rookies in the lineup. Not gonna happen.

Young Slump
Although it's hard to fault a guy who's still over .300 and had a couple of weeks as virtually the lone producer (with Matthews), he's way below his norm.  And of course below expectations right now.

May be just my perception, but a lot of his hitless string is from either producing weak ground balls or swinging at pitches low and away he'd usually take for balls.  Being a mechanics freak, I've watched each at bat the last three games for anything tell-tale.

His stance, position, and swing plane all look OK (without comparison to previous video).  The one anomaly is the whiffs on low and away.  Last year, he was contacting those pitches before they got away from the strike zone.

Any chance he'd rachet back up simply by moving forward in the batters' box about four inches? That would make reaction to fastballs a little more difficult, but IMO he doesn't get a steady diet of fastballs anyway .. most pitchers won't even throw him one in the zone.  And moving up toward the pitcher would increase his chances of solid contact on breaking stuff and two seamers before they become damaging.

Maybe useless info, but I wonder ....
