Rosenthal notes

Ken Rosenthal has a new column up, with the big "above the fold" item being a look at the job Dayton Moore is doing in Kansas City, stockpiling arms in exchange for various spare parts.

Rosenthal includes this tidbit:

Left-hander Mark Redman seems almost certain to go to a contender. Outfielder Matt Stairs, second baseman Mark Grudzielanek and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz are among the other candidates to be traded.

I'm curious about whether the Rangers are sniffing around on a Redman/Stairs combo, given their stated desire to get a starting pitcher and a bat without giving up the farm.  It would be a low-grade upgrade, but I could see the Rangers doing it if the cost were nothing more than a couple of low-level live arms -- Kometani and Funk, or something like that.

Rosenthal also says that the D-Backs are probably not going to deal Luis Gonzalez, whom the Rangers were supposedly interested in.

if the return they want for redman/stairs is anything like what we were hearing they wanted from the rangers for macdougal, i want to stay far away.
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

Stairs
I'd have some interest in him, less interest in Redman. I could see Stairs bringing a little "veteran leadership"  to the team without the veteran suck. Of course, he'd probably have to be platooned with someone else like Botts, but I'd be all for it.

trade
Stay away from both, I can't see them helping and they would be taking time from others with no upgrade.  I would rather see Mench and Wilk share time than have Stairs in the mix too.

Normally
I'd agree that Stairs would be taking away playtime from someone more deserving like Botts. However, Buck doesn't play Botts. So, instead of giving the PT to Hairston, they might as well get Stairs and let him DH against righties since his splits show he can actually still hit righties. Of course, this is all assuming that the Rangers would be giving up pratically nothing in order to acquire Stairs.

Redman...
I might have some interest in him.  While his ERA hovers around 5, I took a look at his recent games and it seems he pitches 1 really good game, and 1 mediocre game, then another good one.  If the cost isn't too bad that's not bad out of a 5th starter.

Also, since the start of June, he's brought his ERA down from 6.80 to 5.03 which would indicate he's actually pitched pretty good since the start of June.  June he pitched 3.74 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP in 33.2 innings, and in July he pitched a 4.36 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP.  On the whole, not too bad if we're counting on him as a 4th/5th starter.

Redman
I'm primarily a Royals fan, but I've always liked the Rangers and I'd like to see them win the West. I think Redman could definitely help the rotation. He started slow after coming back too quickly for an injury, but in his last 10 starts, he's 7-1, 3.92, with the only loss being a 1-0 complete game in which he struck out 9. To emphasize the context of that stretch, Redman has one losing decision in ten starts -- and he pitches for the 35-65 Royals!

Royals fan...
and a Rangers fan? Ouch. I wouldn't be too upset with a Redman signing, depending on what it cost us. Like the ID, too.
You might think I'm crazy. I agree with you.

Me too
Royals and Rangers fan here, too. Except it's Rangers No. 1 and Royals No. 2.

I wouldn't trade...
Kometani for both of them.
This team reminds me of that plane spiraling towards the earth in Superman Returns. It's gut wrenching and fascinating at the same time.

Redman
is an All-Star and a proven veteran I'm sure Buck would trust his life to him

Royals
at the beginnining of the season, it was really hard for anybody to figure out what they were doing signing all of these spares.

I don't see how said spares suddenly turn themselves into hot prospects.

When the rangers sign spares they just get DFA'd later in the year or go quietly away next year.  how come we never get prospects out of them?

Quality
I think we could get prospects for some of those guys, but we would rahter cut them loose than have to get rid of a guy in our system for a C level prospect.

I'd Do It
Arias and someone like CJ Wilson for Redman and Stairs.
One time, Hank Blalock walked down the street with an erection. There were no survivors. www.tepblog.blogspot.com
