Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

7/8/06 game day thread

Lineup up...

Jerry Hairston Jr. is in the lineup again, hitting second and playing left field.  Apparently, Hairston is going to be in the lineup regularly against lefties, even though he has a career 702 OPS against lefties, and a 448 OPS against them this season.

Gerald Laird is starting, though.

John Rheinecker vs. Francisco Liriano...

Go Rangers...

is he sucking someone off or something? take him out of the lineup!

I hate Buck
...seriously, if he's going to play worthless scrubs like Hairston he could at least not bat them second in the order. PLEASE Daniels, release Hairston!

by jcir454 on Jul 8, 2006 4:56 PM CDT reply actions

Odds of the winning tonight
give me a percentage.  If the Rangers played the Twins Liriano vs Rheniecker 100 times, the Rangers win how many?

by Agreen07 on Jul 8, 2006 5:01 PM CDT reply actions

10%
Maybe 15-20% if Hairston is sitting on the bench where he belongs.

by jcir454 on Jul 8, 2006 5:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Jose Valentin
7 RBIs in the first 2 innings of the Mets nightcap with Florida...

Isn't
Pelfry starting that game? How'd he do? I'm too lazy to find the box score right now.
Got trust factor?

Hairston
I don't mind him playing because I really like his defence - but I hate him batting 2nd.
I'm not fickle, I just don't like you.

by shrinking violet on Jul 8, 2006 5:06 PM CDT reply actions

Leftfield Defense
It's not that important.

Wilkerson should be in LF and Kinsler should be hitting 2nd.

by BurntOrange on Jul 8, 2006 5:34 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm starting to wonder...
Does Buck think that he's the reason that GMJ and DeRosa are having good years?  That's the only reason that I can come up with for why Hairston in batting 2nd.  It's one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen in a lineup.  I'm sorry, but Buck is completely nuts.

by altercall on Jul 8, 2006 5:35 PM CDT reply actions

Scoring 3 runs off of
Liriano is equal to scoring 6 off a normal pitcher.

by Agreen07 on Jul 8, 2006 5:58 PM CDT reply actions

I actually like JHJ
as a freaking utlity player, though. No way he should be a regular starting corner OF, platoon or not. Silly, silly Buckles is driving me nuts!!! He should be a speed off the bench guy and a sometimes defensive replacement in the OF, and that's IT.
Got trust factor?

by thedirkatron on Jul 8, 2006 5:58 PM CDT reply actions

Im saying
14k's for Liriano tonight.

You did see that Wilkerson is sitting, right? ;)
You might think I'm crazy. I agree with you.

by trza on Jul 8, 2006 6:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Well
Wilkerson may be sitting, but JHJ is in the lineup.

oh giosh
here comes liriano...it is about to get filthy in here.

by Agreen07 on Jul 8, 2006 7:12 PM CDT reply actions

okay
the first guy to go down was hairston, we don't have to start panicing yet...just in a little while though
Troy I.

by tdi1985 on Jul 8, 2006 7:15 PM CDT reply actions

even if we don't score
a lot on liriano, we need to make liriano through a lot of pitches and not go more than 6

Rheinecker
He's looking strong tonight.

Let's get him some freaking runs... or at least take a whole bunch of pitches so we can get Liriano out of the game, and THEN score some runs.

Got trust factor?

WTF
did someone say JHJ plays good LF?
Botts could kick Nevin's ass

I think TAG
said that about a thousand times.

by Agreen07 on Jul 8, 2006 7:48 PM CDT up reply actions

splain please
What happened?  I've been reading this blog all season from Glendale, CA and 'watching' most games via ESPN's magical updating box scores.  I can't subscribe to MLB.tv unfortunately.  So I'm screwed unless the Rangers are on ESPN or happen to be playing the Angels or Dodgers. :-(

by Hubris on Jul 8, 2006 7:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Fly ball to left field
Hit decently, but hung up in the air a while and carried a bit...

Hairston basically floated back, got turned around, and let it hit the ground...catchable ball he didn't catch...

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 8, 2006 7:51 PM CDT up reply actions

WOW
i stand corrected

great play
but don't you think that was more a mistake to go than anything?

does wilkerson or mench make that play?

Troy I.

by tdi1985 on Jul 8, 2006 7:54 PM CDT reply actions

I tend to believe...
...Wilkerson or Mench also throw the runner out.

He shouldn't have gone.

lol, the best part of that
was how Laird bitch slapped Castillo for the out

Diamond thru 3 IP
10 up / 9 down - a single and 2 K's - no walks, just 1 full-count - sounds pretty crisp

by T Coleman on Jul 8, 2006 8:18 PM CDT up reply actions

It sure seems that they waste...
...a lot of them.  Of course, they are the only team I see play on a frequent basis.  It is very frustrating.

JHJ
why didn't he sac bunt?
Botts could kick Nevin's ass

by texasbuckeye on Jul 8, 2006 8:36 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed
That was total mis-management of that inning.  As I stated in an earlier thread, these "little things" are why the Rangers will not fair well if they make it to the play-offs.  The last two innings sum it all up.

At least...
...the A's are losing.

by tlt29 on Jul 8, 2006 9:16 PM CDT reply actions

but
bad news is that this Jered Weaver kid is the one that's totally shutting them out.

By the way, Weaver was drafted in 2004, two picks after Thomas Diamond.

by alon91 on Jul 8, 2006 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

oh cmon!
what the hell does tex have to do to get a freaking hr!!?
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

by rentz on Jul 8, 2006 9:32 PM CDT reply actions

First thing he needs to do...
...is hit it over the fence.

Then, he must round the bases, touching home plate to properly score the run.

by tlt29 on Jul 8, 2006 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Time for Feldman to go
submarining or sidearmed pitchers or whatever you want to call them are worthless, time to get rid of this guy!!!  He is ineffective!!!

by SanDiegoKev on Jul 8, 2006 9:49 PM CDT reply actions

Littleton
You want to get rid of him, too?

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 8, 2006 10:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I really
don't see the need for two of those guys in the same bullpen. Send Feldman down to work on a changeup or some other pitch to get lefties. I don't think he helps the pen right now.
Pass the Buck, Fire Showalter!

by FirebatM3 on Jul 8, 2006 10:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Feldman seems
a little worse than he is because he often gives up a run, not necessarily on bad pitches.  But my complaint is that he can't field his position.  He has possibly given up more baserunners on E-1 than with timely hits.

I do like Littleton as a guy you have trouble getting used to though.  Maybe better long term than Feldman.
