New poll up

Okay, people...you have tainted the "50,000th hit poll" by voting for Kevin Mench after he already got the 50,000th hit...

He only had 5 votes before he got #50,000.  Don't think I didn't count!!! (Shaking fist)

Anyway...new poll up.  Grade Jon Daniels' performance at the trade deadline.  Cast your vote at right.

I went...
with an A.  Overall, I'd probably give it about a B, but in comparison to most other teams, I think that bumps up to A on the curve.  Yanks and Rangers probably did the most to improve their teams at the deadline

I gave them a B simply because the most impact player they got was a bat not a pitcher, but thats not all daniels' fault, the market just didnt have good pitchers at a fair price.
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

A because
There were no pitchers worth a damn at all available and at least we got a mediocre one so we dont have to see 2 johns.

A
A good hitter added and did not overpay for garbage.  The old saying is the best move is the one you don't move.  How happy would everyone be if we got Hernandez, Redman or someone comparable, they post a 5 era and are now stuck with them for another year?  JD worked the system the best he could and gave this team a chance to win by adding solid parts.

Carlos Lee
How does this trade look if we finish in last place and he walks?  Will you change your answers then?
enough is enough. i've had it with these snakes.

Carlos Lee
If the Rangers finish in last and he walks, then we got Nelson Cruz and a couple of first round picks for Kevin Mench, Laynce Nix, and Francisco Cordero.

That's not bad.

also
dropped some salary, as cordero had an expensive option and mench was looking at a sizeable raise.

Does that still make it an A trade?  Or would that drop it to B?

I voted A
and that was taking the probablity of Lee walking. So, yah, I'd leave it as an A.

Getting Nelson Cruz, two top picks, plus financial relief for Mench and Cordero is a good deal.

If the Rangers do end up finishing well out of it, it won't be Lee's fault.

B+
And only because the Tejada-Oswalt trifecta didn't happen as someone got wind of it and shook up the parties concerned.  It would have shed Barajas and added Oswalt.  Note, that isn't a demerit on Daniels so much as a demerit on 'the new media mode'.  In the old days that kind of deal would have been consumated and shocked the sports press when announced.

win-win
I think A, because the Rangers both improved the team in the short term without giving up anyone important and there is a potential for several high draft picks next year to reload a farm system badly in need of positional prospects.  I am looking forward to seeing what JD does in the offseason.

A-/B+
Basically, I thought that the Rangers could have just as easily pulled off the Wilson and/or Hernandez/Perez deal (i.e., dealt more with Littlefield), but he did a good job, otherwise.

It's too bad that Abreu wouldn't waive his no-trade clause to us w/o picking up the option.

I'm still shocked that the Angels didn't do anything to beat the Yankee's offer on Abreu.

I mean it's not like they're in a small market, or cheap, or don't have a much better farm system than the Yankees.

I 'd give JD an A+/Incomplete......
Based upon Buck Showalter's employment status within the next 6 weeks

No, I didn't....
vote for the last option.

I actually gave him an A.  I thought he did a nice job of improving the team for this year, setting up an opportunity to restock the farm system with several top 50 draft picks, and adding Cruz, all while really only giving up one guy (Cordero) who I think had any real value for next season, and who should be able to be replaced for $5 million this offseason, assuming he isn't replaced internally.

Since the Tejada's and Schmidt's of the world didn't get traded, I don't think you can hold that against him, because it may very well be that not making deals for those types of players was the right move, since we don't know what they would have cost us.
