I smell a sweep.
Carlos Lee is in gear, Dero is going out of his mind. Teix is getting on base like its his job (haha IT IS.) Mike young is being mike young. Adam Eaton just smoked 3 packs of marboro red ultra 100's.

We are kickin ass tonight.

A sweep by Seattle.

Carlos Lee
is not a better hitter than Tex, Tom!

This year he certainly is.

Career
For his career and in the opinion of several scouts, no.

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:28 PM CDT up reply actions

That's why I said "this year"
Teixeira is clearly a better player.  Lee is having the better season.

Well refer to the post below.

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Compare their stat lines
...and tell me who you'd bat fourth if you were the one filling out the lineup card.

by Dustin on Aug 10, 2006 7:33 PM CDT up reply actions

TEX
You always put the guy with a little bit more speed at the 3 hole.  That is probably why Lee is hitting there.  Plus with the way Tex is hitting there is no way you take him out of the 4 hole.  I guess one half of not hitting home runs just completely damns a player in your mind.

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions

ops
lee's is only 18 pts higher

by mdickson on Aug 10, 2006 7:28 PM CDT up reply actions

If you hit 4th
...you need to hit homers.

by Dustin on Aug 10, 2006 7:30 PM CDT up reply actions

questions
Are the Tigers good this year?  Yes, they are.  Who hits 4th for them?  Ordonez.  How many HRs does he have?  16.  Hmmm, interesting.  I guess you NEED to hit home runs if you hit 4 hole.  Quick somebody tell the Tigers that!!!

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Ha
Another dynamite drop in by Dustin, well done.

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:38 PM CDT up reply actions

My step dad
He used to use that expression.  I'm quite fond of it.

Anyway, all other things equal ("ceteris paribus" to let you know I'm smart), you'd rather have home runs.  That's a given.  I don't care what the Tigers do.

by Dustin on Aug 10, 2006 7:41 PM CDT up reply actions

x
Rather have home runs over what?  So you would rather have Richie Sexson in the 4 hole over Tex?

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:45 PM CDT up reply actions

not paying attention
The post below was supposed to be a response to yours above.  I put it in the wrong place.

As for Sexon, no.  All other things are definitely NOT equal.

by Dustin on Aug 10, 2006 7:48 PM CDT up reply actions

you're not paying attention for some reason
I said Teixeira is a better player.  I haven't damned him.  We're talking about this season and this season only, and this season Lee has had a better year for a cleanup-type guy.  Had he been on the Rangers all along, he would've been the best candidate to hit fourth.

by Dustin on Aug 10, 2006 7:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Nope
NO he would not have.  He would be the best number three hitter for this lineup because he has a little bit of speed.  Also, if he were here to start the season, im pretty sure that Tex would have been hitting 4th at the beginning due to his track record.

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:51 PM CDT up reply actions

not sure the speed matters much
It's not like you're going to steal with the cleanup spot coming up.  Speed matters on the basepaths, but I don't think there's enough difference between the two to matter a lot.

I agree with the rest of what you said.  Tex would definitely begin the year hitting cleanup, which is why I said Lee would've been the best "candidate".

by Dustin on Aug 10, 2006 7:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Lee has more speed.........
than Tex ? You must be kidding. Tho' neither is Carl Lewis, Tex has to be faster than Lee.

Plus, they'd be better off with Tex hitting 3rd and Lee 4th....Tex would hit in the 1st inning and also might get an extra at bat in a game once in awhile, plus they'd be set-up better for late inning match-ups, switch hitter, righty, switch hitter, righty.

by tklawless on Aug 11, 2006 12:39 AM CDT up reply actions

FWIW
Normally I wouldn't bother jumping into this discussion, but Teixeira has hit 9 homers since the break while Lee has only 2.
No more Buck in 2007

by jcir454 on Aug 10, 2006 7:53 PM CDT up reply actions

I know
But the original discussion is about the years the two are having.  Feel free to jump in, it's cool.

by Dustin on Aug 10, 2006 7:55 PM CDT up reply actions

x
Yes and look at the steals and his speed that is why he is hitting where he is.  Refer to Charlie Lau.  You seriously need to learn something about baseball fairly soon.  Let me guess you were the kid that got cut from the HS team in 9th grade, right?

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:58 PM CDT up reply actions

And here we go with the insults
I know a thing or two about baseball.  Lee is not a very fast player, really, and I think you know that.

And, yeah, I was cut from the HS baseball team, but it was from the varsity team and it wasn't because I couldn't play.  I had what they called "disciplinary" problems and I was quite possibly the worst defensive player in the history of the game.  I could hit though and wouldn't have gotten cut in spite of not having a position.

by kumar75150 on Aug 10, 2006 7:27 PM CDT reply actions

Ervin Santana
Santana was removed from the Angels game because he got hit in the leg with a line drive.  If he goes down that would be a HUGE hit to the Angels.

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:30 PM CDT reply actions

why?
santana isn't that good and they have a guy at AAA who could fill in fine.

by mdickson on Aug 10, 2006 7:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Loss
12-5 4.14 ERA....I think they would hurt if they lost that every 5th day.  I dont know who they would plug in from AAA, but I am really only familar with their position player prospects.

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:40 PM CDT up reply actions

his record
isn't a good indicator of how he's pitched. his 2:1 k/bb ratio is bad. 1.21 whip is nothing to be proud of.

by mdickson on Aug 10, 2006 7:42 PM CDT up reply actions

AAA
Who replaces him from AAA then?  Im just saying that he is much better than alternative that the Angels have.

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 7:46 PM CDT up reply actions

What?
A 1.21 WHIP is nothing to be proud of?  That WHIP currently has him 11th in the AL.

by LoneStarBallUser on Aug 10, 2006 7:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Uhh
A 1.21 whip and 2:1 k/bb is nothing to be ashamed about. He's not a  #1 stater and maybe not a  #2 starter, but definitely a good #3 starter. Oh, and I'm pretty sure the Angels don't have anyone in AAA that could pitch THAT good immediately.

but yeah, getting shut out by a mediocre pitcher is pretty par for the course.  actually, getting shut out by a terrible pitcher is par for the course this season.  and seems like there have been lots of outs on the basepaths this season to boot.

This season is just cursed.  That just happens and we cant score after hitting two rods back to back after the first two guys get on.  Can anyone explain this?

by booyahcaveman on Aug 10, 2006 8:06 PM CDT reply actions

What I can tell so far from this game
Is that the Ranger's hitters can't hold back from swinging at offspeed pitches in the dirt.

I doubt it
Usually if a pitcher is injured they get the trainer out there and bring in the umpire to let him know in case they need more time for the guy coming in.  It was just a weird pitching change.

if the Rangers got two homeruns in the sixth inning, the person chosen gets the current jackpot plus $100 for every extra homerun...

nor I have I seen Uncle Buck in his sleeveless uni.  Josh says it was 102 degrees at gametime.

ball hits runner
When that happens the ball is dead, isn't it?  I mean, the other team couldn't pick the ball up and get a double play, right?

it's a new program that's been started up to give potential students a chance to look at the university kind of more up close on an all day Monday look.  Kind of a more in depth campus tour.  Pretty successful program.

CJ Wilson...
should start getting more innings and another look as a starter.  He has much better stuff than Koronka or Rheinecker, both of whom throw bp fastballs.  Wilson only threw one inning last night, but he blew his fastball by the two lefthanded and one right handed hitters he faced, touching 94 miles per hour. There aren't many lefties who have that type of velocity, particularly within the Rangers.  An effective left handed starter would be a big boost to this this rotation.
