I think he's probably right about the Yanks
Their offense is hard to deal with.

Funny thing about the article, though...the author goes on and on about the Yankees' lineup and then criticizes the Soriano/Wilkerson trade as one of the worst in 25 years.  The Rangers were trying to be like the Yankees, and it would've worked had Wilkerson been healthy.  He's that type of player...works counts and makes you get him out.  Before this year Soriano was never that type of player and Wilkerson was.

But, yes, he's right about why the Yankees are good.  That's the formula for success.  It's not all about individual statistics.  I'd argue that a players "close and late" numbers are largely a function of what the team did up to that point and what they did the night(s) before (tire the bullpen).

The future is an infinite succession of presence.

OK article
But did you notice that 2-3 times he compared a baseball signing/trade to an NBA one? Why not compare it to a different MLB move? It's like he doesn't even watch baseball - he just checks box scores because of his fantasy teams. His analysis of the Wilk/Soriano trade demonstrates it. Based on box scores, all he knows is that Wilk's sucked this year, Soriano's playing out of his mind, so he declares the trade "one of the worst in 25 years." He's a fan of the Red Sox, he basically knows what's going on around the league, but he doesn't know anything in depth about anything other than the Red Sox and his fantasy players. Not that it's a bad thing. It's about my level knowledge. But I don't write for ESPN.
Fire Buck, DFA everyone, burn down the stadium.

Yup, pretty much
Yeah, you got his knowledge about right.

But keep in mind, he's not a baseball writer. He's a generic sports/pop culture humor writer. He's supposed to be like the average fan in a lot of ways.
