I think he's probably right about the Yanks
Funny thing about the article, though...the author goes on and on about the Yankees' lineup and then criticizes the Soriano/Wilkerson trade as one of the worst in 25 years. The Rangers were trying to be like the Yankees, and it would've worked had Wilkerson been healthy. He's that type of player...works counts and makes you get him out. Before this year Soriano was never that type of player and Wilkerson was.
But, yes, he's right about why the Yankees are good. That's the formula for success. It's not all about individual statistics. I'd argue that a players "close and late" numbers are largely a function of what the team did up to that point and what they did the night(s) before (tire the bullpen).

But keep in mind, he's not a baseball writer. He's a generic sports/pop culture humor writer. He's supposed to be like the average fan in a lot of ways.
