Carlos Lee...mailing it in

I am not sure why he gets a free pass but I could feel the akward silence tonight in the booth when Carlos decided to make a quick left turn to the dugout on his swinging third strike when he knew the catcher had dropped the ball. Tom Grieve has never been afraid before to call out a player, but Carlos Lee looks like he plays about as hard as Juan Gonzalez. Plus he has an arm like David Eckstein and would barely beat out Bengie Molina on a 40 yard dash to the concession stand on dollar hotdog night.

It would make my day if we got two draft picks for him...
Have you heard of Hurd?

You're welcome
Just an observation.  Meant no offense by it.

i agree with all of it
except he isnt that slow.  If he played here a full year, he'd prolly lead our team in stolen bases.

Stealing
Doesn't always correlate with speed. Lee is very slow, although he knows when to steal and when to take advantage of a pitcher not watching him at first. I really wouldn't say that he is fast. He is one of the slower guys on our team. Then again he is also pretty lazy when it comes to running out groundballs or chasing a ball in the outfield.

I didn't see the play tonight
But Lee is a lot like Juan Gonzalez in that it doesn't look like he's running hard.  He has those long legs, and like Gonzo, is faster than you think.

Lee
Is not faster than anyone thinks. He's about as slow as it gets.

I stand by what I said

Do you
actually watch the games?

He's about as bad a defensive LF as you'll ever see, has an awful arm, and is slow as molasses.

by jthig32 on Aug 23, 2006 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't know what to think
He appears to have decent speed on the bases and is a smart baserunner, but he does not cover any ground at all in the outfield.

I would buy the theory that his long legs make him look slower than he really is...but the guy really does not cover any ground in the outfield.

Yes I do watch the games
There's no reason to be a dick about it.

Never said Lee was a good outfielder or that he had a good arm, just that he runs faster than you think.  He's not THAT slow.  He looks slower than he is.

I've heard that b.s. about Gonzo for years now ...
... and it's complete crap.  Nobody loafed their way around the field better than him.  And it wasn't that he "looked" like he was loafing, he was actually loafing.

by Athos on Aug 23, 2006 8:47 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was faster than you think
The guy sometimes had injuries that slowed him down, but when healthy he had pretty decent speed for his size.  I'm not saying he never loafed, by the way.  You're implying that he loafed most all the time, but he did not.

Maybe he loafed,
but I'd love to have an RBI machine like JuanGon back in the Ranger blue, or red again.

Coulda sworn that was Sharky saying that....
Have you heard of Hurd?

by miles on Aug 23, 2006 10:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

We did.
And that RBI machine turned into a D.L. machine with a number of questionable injuries.  He was pulling that crap before we traded him.  All the skill in the world and zero heart.

by Athos on Aug 23, 2006 11:24 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nah
The Rangers started putting him on the DL all the time for no injuries.

Just like they did Pudge in his later years.

Juan wanted to come off the DL all the time the Rangers wouldn't let him. There was some DMN story about it, with maybe Carl Everett? Cant rememember. It was standard Ranger practice.

Pudge would have been on the DL 25/7/365 if he hadn't left the Rangers. You KNOW that is true.

Let's get Harold & go to WhiteCastle.......
oh, BTW, I ain't seen nothing fromCarlos Lee that makes me wanna give him $50, much less $50million

by tklawless on Aug 23, 2006 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well get ready
Because we're about to dedicate 100 million dollars to this guy at the low end.

He's right up the Rangers alley. Terrible.

just to
throw it out there, on MVP 05 Lee has a speed icon under his name lol so maybe he does have deceptive speed. who knows
Come back Soriano!
