Turn out the lights

This season is over.

Another snakebit game, in a snakebit season.

Time for Jon Daniels to see what offers are out there for any free-agents-to-be on the team that have cleared waivers, and start working towards 2007.

time to start gearing up for '07.

Let's be honest...
NOBODY here will be happy until Buck is gone. I hope this year was his last chance in Texas.

by jcir454 on Aug 9, 2006 12:13 AM CDT reply actions

I agree
I will be happy if Buck is fired. It would make my week if I wake up tomorrow morning and read that J.D. has fired Buck Showalter.

Absolutely disgusting that we can't stay in the race past the second week of August when the division is this bad.

by austintxhorn on Aug 9, 2006 12:15 AM CDT up reply actions

Well
The good news? Buck will be fired at the end of the season if we're 10+ out...

by Longhorn on Aug 9, 2006 12:14 AM CDT reply actions

I wouldn't be shocked
...if he's fired when the team comes back from Oakland.

by Dustin on Aug 9, 2006 12:15 AM CDT up reply actions

I would be beyond shocked
if that happens.

I'll be normally shocked if he's fired during the offseason.

by Wes Cox on Aug 9, 2006 12:16 AM CDT up reply actions

the reason I think it's possible
It's not so much that they're losing, but how they've been losing.  They're like the Exxon Valdez out there.

If you think we're frustrated, imagine how the guys in the front office feel.

by Dustin on Aug 9, 2006 12:24 AM CDT up reply actions

i'll be shocked....
if he gets fired at all. hicks owes him too much money to can him
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

by rentz on Aug 9, 2006 6:55 AM CDT up reply actions

i'm
cheering for oakland from here on out. if anaheim wins the divison again i'm going to punch a baby.

by selppuc on Aug 9, 2006 12:14 AM CDT reply actions

How can
you root for either one??  Tigers are a good story..
Not all is Wells...

by miles on Aug 9, 2006 12:15 AM CDT up reply actions

yeah
i definently want oakland to flame out in the postseason, but i would much rather them win the division than anaheim. as far as who i will cheer for overall either the twins or tigers.

by selppuc on Aug 9, 2006 12:17 AM CDT up reply actions

The mistake was...
not selling guys on this team at the deadline.  We could have gotten tons of value for guys like Barajas, Coco, Padilla, Eaton, GMJ, etc... and we will get a few draft picks instead.  The mistake was having faith in this team.  I hope JD has learned his lesson, cause it's going to be a long offseason.  It's time to blow it up and start over with a few key guys like Young, Kinsler, and Millwood.
In JD, we trust.

by ortonius on Aug 9, 2006 12:15 AM CDT reply actions

can't blame him
The division was very winnable at that point.

by Dustin on Aug 9, 2006 12:16 AM CDT up reply actions

Only from a...
glass half full standpoint.  Did anyone REALLY think we could win a bunch of games against OAK, LAA and SEA?  I sure didn't.
In JD, we trust.

by ortonius on Aug 9, 2006 12:17 AM CDT up reply actions

i thought we had a chance
i still don't think the a's or angels are that good.

by selppuc on Aug 9, 2006 12:19 AM CDT up reply actions

They aren't...
which is an indicator of just how bad we are.
In JD, we trust.

by ortonius on Aug 9, 2006 12:19 AM CDT up reply actions

I didn't
I said a few weeks ago that Oakland and Anaheim would turn it on, and they have.
enough is enough. i've had it with these snakes.

by chief on Aug 9, 2006 10:22 AM CDT up reply actions

Well, Texas fading
and Oakland picking it up in the second half isn't exactly news to anyone paying attention these last few years.

by DJCahill on Aug 9, 2006 10:28 AM CDT up reply actions

Tons of value for them?
Maybe only for GMJ and Padilla, and it also wouldn't be that much seeing that they all would just be 2 month rentals...

by Longhorn on Aug 9, 2006 12:17 AM CDT up reply actions

You mean...
Like the ton of value Washington got for Soriano, and the ton of value the Pirates got for all their fodder?

I'm not so sure JD would've been overwhelmed, and thus I still think he made the right move.

by jcir454 on Aug 9, 2006 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions

But then...
Tex would go cry about it, wouldn't want that...
Not all is Wells...

by miles on Aug 9, 2006 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Yeah...
cause he'll be here past next year.
In JD, we trust.

by ortonius on Aug 9, 2006 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Also
i'd rather get picks for them then trade 'um...

by Longhorn on Aug 9, 2006 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Starting over with Young
He's a 30 year old shortstop with limited defensively ability and a good, not great, bat.  He's likely to get worse, not better.

Why would you rebuild around him?

Or Millwood, for that matter?

by Adam J. Morris on Aug 9, 2006 10:13 AM CDT up reply actions

Young
I think he's better than what you're implying, and will remain very good over the next couple years.  His trade value probably won't get any higher, so if the Rangers want to rebuild one of the first things they should do is trade Young.

And Millwood.  Keep Teixeira until he turns his power numbers around, then trade him.  Only Kinsler, Laird, and a few of the younger guys on the 25-man roster should return.

But I don't know that they HAVE to rebuild.  I think that would be the way to get the very best team possible, but it would take at least three years.  If they're bold and make some really shrewd moves, there's no reason they can't be a pretty good team as soon as next season.

"Hey look, we have men on 2nd and 3rd, 0 outs
in the 9th and we're behind by 3... We could pull this off."

And then the Umps realized that the A's were playing the Rangers and the game was over.

by hiafex on Aug 9, 2006 12:18 AM CDT reply actions

sounded like it wasn't the ump's fault
DeRosa- like everyone else in the line-up, was just doing his part.  That's a call that's frequently made.  You can't fall into the plate on a play like that -- or you better damn well make contact.

by 1-4-06 on Aug 9, 2006 12:22 AM CDT reply actions

the whole of this team
is stinkier than the sum of its parts.

Giving up is for wimps...
No, I don't see a lot of hope. But I do see a lot of talent. It's up to them, and a positive attitude from the fans. Tonight was a huge slap in the face..or kick in the...whatever, but it was a freaky game in a freaky year. This cannot, will not continue. There is character here. Two Blalock errors, more Blalock hits; they are trying. If we, as fans can't rally around them, then to hell with us...They can win. It's screwy, 4 runs in two pitches...two outs on a strikeout and a (apparently) stolen base. It's a test. Do you think Yankee or Red Sox fans would settle? Well, I won't either. It is not over.

I'm with ya
I do not understand how everyone on this board can watch 100 games a year and then when we start to slip and have an unlikely chance of winning the west everyone wants to talk about football. Get real. What kind of fans are you? Enjoy the fact that we have been in contention for this long and hope for some luck to turn in our direction.

And to the person who said that they hope Oakland win you should beaten. I will never cheer for a team that has Nick Swisher and Milton Bradley. Everytime they strike out they go ape s. It is embarrassing and so is Nick's facial hair.

Season
not over yet, it still can be won....though highly unlikely now.... this team is just so deflating, i turned in last night when it looked like the team was well in the lead only to wake up and see they lost by 1.
