The "lovable" Big Papi may not be so lovable any more

It looks like Big Papi is shilling for MVP votes and throwing his teammates under a bus while doing so....

"Don't get me wrong -- he's a great player, having a great season, but he's got a lot of guys in that lineup," Ortiz continued. "Top to bottom, you've got a guy who can hurt you. Come hit in this lineup, see how good you can be."

He also doesn't mention having Manny right behind him (who's likely a BETTER hitter than Ortiz) to provide for that ever-elusive "protection" in the lineup.

Chalk another one to the "baseball players can be dumb sometimes" theory.

The Yankees
are the Sox' rivals.  Talking smack kind of comes with that.

what
about throwing your own teammates under the bus?

he's stupid
and doesn't undersatand english?

or, could be that he's right and sees what the rest of the league knows that the yankees have a better lineup.  of course, he's wrong about how that affects jeter and doesnt' affect him.

I would think..
that he only spoke out because the rest of his team is probably encouraging him.

Ortiz
Is a god son, he singlehandedly brought the red sox from hell to heaven two years ago

Jeter is a pretty-boy bitch, who sucks at short stop.

I think
their was a long haired bearded guy, someone with a bloody sock, a steady catcher, and a guy with corn rows and a baggy uniform that may take issue with you saying Ortiz "Single handedly" brought them from hell.

Why do we let the media corner us into only considering a Red Sock or Yankee.

Ortiz
Might be getting to the point where he is overrated.

A Guy
Who hits 48 HR's and 120+ RBI's is never overrated. Even if his defense is not too great. Since Papi doesn't field, that is not an issue. Seems to me with his numbers, he is doing his job and doing it very very well.

He sounded basically like a stathead
From what I heard he was basicaly saying, yeah Jeter's great but he doesn't hit 40+ and drive in 120+. So he should not be MVP.

Basically stathead talk.

that being said,
it is a valid point

I have
been saying for a while that Ortiz gets a free pass with the media.  He is throwing Manny and his teammates under the bus, but he is right.  If you had the choice to throw to a slap hitter (a really good one granted) or Juicediambi, ARod, Cano, Abreu, etc. you are going to pitch to the guy who is going to single, double or get out.  Jeter should rack up stats in that lineup.

On second thought, who is going to be in a better situation to pad their stats; a guy who spends his time between at bats running down texas leaguers and diving on smashed ground balls or the guy that spends that time reviewing tape of the pitcher and his last at bat?  The MVP should never go to a relief pitcher or a DH.

I dont like either choice.  I think the MVP should go to someone from the Tigers, Twins, or some bastard (no offense to bastards) from the White Sox.
