A's acquire Jerome Williams

Apparently the Cubs had waived him, and the A's picked him up for nothing.

Adam and many others (myself included) wanted to see the Rangers acquire this guy over the last few years.

I'm not sure what happened to his career. He had some dominant performances with the Giants when he was first called up, and hasn't been the same since. Maybe Dusty Baker destroyed his arm at age 21.

A's have a project pitcher now, although they had to place him on their 40 man roster according to the article.

He has had a really, really bad last couple of years, and he may be impossible to salvage mentally and/or physically, but that's a shot I would have taken I think.

Of course I'm a guy who was really pissed about dumping Dominguez this spring, so maybe I'm not sufficiently able to downgrade guys who formerly have shown something but may have lost it both mentally and physically.

I never knewn

what you guys saw in him. He has a 89-91mph fastball which is pretty straight and average breaking stuff.

I was interested in bringing him in over the off-season. He had a sub 4.00 ERA coming into this year and will be under club control for another 2-3 years. While his career WHIP was probably too high to sustain his ERA+, he's not nearly as bad as the 2.11 WHIP he put up this year. His minor league stats prior to this year look pretty good too.

Get him away from Dusty Baker and I think he'll turn it around.
