Around SBN: Dog Football! Which Breeds Are Best Suited For The Gridiron?

Okay

I don't think I'm going to watch any more of the playoffs.

In fact, I don't know if I am going to want to watch football against until, maybe, 2008.

What a trainwreck, stomach punch of a game.

Between the screwy calls by the refs and the bad breaks that went against the Cowboys, it is as if the Cowboys were destined to lose.

At least one of them will be gone.
And if I had to take bets as to which will be back, it's that idiot Owens.

by Athos on Jan 6, 2007 10:36 PM CST up reply actions

Nah?
Is that the best retort you can come up with?  Whatever you do, don't actually try to add something to the conversation.  We'd probably all die of shock.

Would you please?
Then i wouldn't have to read your moronic stance on these issues.

Re-read the post, jackass.
You'll have to actually CONTRIBUTE something before any of us will actually die of shock.

Sorry, Meno, I know your rule, but this guy is an absolute dickhead.

I'll watch the Super Bowl
but I don't plan on watching anything between now and then.

It's basketball season baby and the Mavs are the best team in the NBA.

I'm usually
about as disinterested in the SB as any game all year. Not sure why.

by Brett Perryman on Jan 6, 2007 10:44 PM CST up reply actions

After experiencing the thrill of the SB in ...
...93, 94, and 96, the game is just meaningless when the Cowboys aren't involved.

by Athos on Jan 6, 2007 10:48 PM CST up reply actions

wrong
The games were in 93, 94, and 96.

by mdickson on Jan 6, 2007 11:10 PM CST up reply actions

The SB's were actually played ...
... in 93, 94, and 96. Of course, they were for the seasons that you referenced.  :)

by Athos on Jan 6, 2007 11:10 PM CST up reply actions

Not to mention
The college season is dragging out this year also. The damn NC game isn't until Monday and what the hell was that International Bowl game about today?

What a joke that is
Ohio State last played on November 18. That means they have a 7+ week layoff? That is the dumbest thing ever.

by Brett Perryman on Jan 6, 2007 10:52 PM CST up reply actions

I agree totally
There are to many bowl games now it seems every team gets a bowl game. I remember when it used to be special for your team to go to a bowl.

All I can do is...
Vomit.

Is this voodoo payback for all the sucesss in the first 30 years of the franchise?  Haven't we suffered enough?

It's not bad enough that our team becomes the national focus and gets shoved down everyone's throat before they've really accomplished anything.  Now we have to put up with just plain bad luck to go along with poor play from over-rated players.

I can't wait for the will Bill/TO/Bledsoe/Ellis/Roy/Jerry Jones/Jesus be coming back next season discussion to take over next week's Tickers/Sportscenters.

Vomit.

Here's My Hopes For 2007
I think here is where we find out if Romo's got the stones to be the guy for the forseeable future or if he was a flash in the pan. After all the fumbles and interceptions, it finally got to him tonight. The dude looked absolutely crushed, like someone just ran over his dog in front of him.

For my two cents, I'd like to see a full season of a healthy Terrell Owens catching balls from a starting Tony Romo with Marion Barber getting the lion's share of the touches in the running game until the Cowboys can get a Lorenzo Neal level fullback to block for Julius Jones running behind an offensive line that doesn't include Marco Rivera.

I'd also like to see all that happen in an offense not run by Chris Palmer with a defense definitely not run by Mike Zimmer.

I don't think we get those last two things with Bill Parcells as head coach.

I'm also of the opinion that Parcells is done on his terms. I've read so much in the last two days about how Bill Cowher just "didn't have the fire" anymore or how he "needed some time to recharge his batteries".

If Bill Cowher needs some time off in North Carolina, Bill Parcells needs a tropical island all to himself for about a decade. He's cooked. He's been cooked since last season. Look at his body language on the sidelines all season and listen to his answers to questions in the pressers post-game: Not only is he at a loss as to what to do about the problems his team faced, but he didn't really seem too motivated to actually look into them and at least try and fix them.

When you look, sound and act like a guy who's just lost six straight hands of poker and you're throwing your home mortage and wedding band in the pot for the seventh hand, it's time to bow out.

Screwy Calls
Which calls that went against the J-boys were wrong?

I watched the game at a bar (so no sound) with a bunch of folks who were neutral, and there wasn't any discussion of the J-boys getting screwed.

by BurntOrange on Jan 6, 2007 11:25 PM CST reply actions

Screwy calls
The Newman pass interference call was a bad call.

Reversing the spot on the Witten catch appeared very questionable.

There was at least one other defensive holding penalty the Cowboys got hit with that seemed very, very questionable as well.

by Adam J. Morris on Jan 6, 2007 11:26 PM CST up reply actions

I thought there were some poor calls ...
... on the Dallas D for holding, but the officiating didn't really contribute to the Cowboys winning or losing this game.  Now go back to Game 5 of the NBA Finals last season ... that's a textbook case of bad officiating making the difference in a game.

by Athos on Jan 6, 2007 11:41 PM CST up reply actions

Screwy calls
The Newman pass interference call was very questionable, as was the tipped interception.  That's one for each team.

Reversing the spot on the Witten catch was the right call.

I don't see how you can say it favored one team or the other.

by BurntOrange on Jan 6, 2007 11:55 PM CST up reply actions

Tipped Interception?
There was nothing questionable about that. The video evidence was pretty clear that he stayed in bounds.

There pass interference was one of the weakest you'll ever see.

Newman's call for holding earlier in the half was a phantom call. Not even debateable.

by jthig32 on Jan 7, 2007 9:49 AM CST up reply actions

The Newman PI Was Legit
You know, when I first saw that Newman PI call, I also thought it was a craptastic call.

If you watched the replay of it, you saw Newman getting down on some very sly, very professional PI against Nate Burleson. You could only see it from the camera shot looking into the end zone from behind the end zone (in other words, the camera looking at roughly the same thing the back judge would see depending on where he was in position).

He waited until the receiver's natural arm motion from running brought his arm back into Newman's body and he hooked his hand around the crook of the receiver's elbow and held his arm just long enough to keep him from being able to extend that arm.

It was seriously smooth and I was amazed the refs caught it.

Then again, maybe they didn't catch it and threw the flag on the minimal contact. If that was the case, that was one weak, unprofessional call.

The faithful are blinded
You seem to place blame on anything except the shitty performance by the Cowboys.  They haven't been good all season.  Romo was the "savior" of the team, but once the league figured him out, he was exposed as nothing but a league-average QB.
you jackin' it?
