Tony Romo, the Leader

It was right there, right there!

We will hear all the clichés, "We wouldn't have been in this position without Tony", "He got us here", "He drove them down there at the end". The reason we hear the same old clichés are because they are always true, and of course I believe that all of the ones I used are true. The concern I really have though is not that the Cowboys lost and as a fan I am upset, but how will it affect this kid?

Is it really his fault that they lost? Yep. And Bill's and Terrence's and Roy's and Terry's and TO's. The only problem is that the last guy that screws up gets all the blame. The positive I see in the game is what I saw after the game in the press conference, when Tony Romo took complete responsibility for the loss. I think this will make him a stronger person, which will make him a better quarterback, and just from tonight alone, it is apparent that he is a Leader.

"It hurts real bad right now," a sullen Romo said. "I cost the Dallas Cowboys a playoff win. That's going to sit with me a long time. I don't know if I've ever felt this low."

Responsibility = Accountability. Players on this team need to take heed to what Romo did tonight, no excuses, just responsibility.

Are you listening Terrell, I didn't try to commit suicide, and all the other whoa as me, how come everyone is coming down on me, things, oh and don't forget the 2 drops a game, my quota, Owens. It is because you put yourself in that situation TO, and I can give you 25 million reasons why you do that.

Big Bill, I think I will play for a field goal all game long, or probably go ahead and take responsibility and then blame someone else by saying, " I told the - insert player or coach, whichever is applicable- not to do it that way", Parcells.

Terrence, I can't cover Bobby "The Spare" Engram, Newman.

Terry, I dropped the ball on the first play of the game and then gave the ball up on the goal line, Glenn.

And of course "The Great Roy Williams". Man did you see the way he covered Jeremy Stevens?, yea, me neither.

I will give TO credit for taking responsibility in the Washington game, although in my opinion the loss was Roy Williams fault, though you never heard him take any of the load on his shoulders. The TO drop deep over the middle happened while the Cowboys still had a 7 point lead, as did the Roy Williams 48 yard penalty, which, of course, effectively lost the lead. {Reference below, from www.nfl.com :}

Responsibility, it's a lost art in sports.

Romo...
Fans are not fair...

Remember only a few months ago everyone was the biggest Romo fans?  Now people are pissed off at him?

Let me tell you one thing.  Without Romo, we wouldn't be here talking about playoffs.

Romo is a class act, he took all the blame for the loss and took it harder than anyone will ever take for a loss.

This is his first year of starting, and people are expecting him to carry this team on his back.  This loss was not his fault, he made the plays he had to and he shouldn't have to put down the kicks.

There is no reason to be angry at Tony Romo, and if you do then you know nothing about football.

Please tell me why I am wrong.

I dont see people mad at him
I think it's stupid to get mad at him for the snap. It just happens. Like a player is going to be perfect.

I think Romo's youth has been catching up to him the last few games. He's too quick to look to dump the ball off sometimes.

"This is his first year of starting, and people are expecting him to carry this team on his back"

It's people like you who built him into the best QB ever though after a quick start. Dont be surprised at a little backlash.

Oh and this diary.."isn't it great how Tony took responsibility!" So he made a sucky play, people turn into how great he is. I can only imagine people would have done the same if Bledsoe was that holder..

I dont even know. What concerns me on Romo is he doesn't have the strongest arm. But OTOH, the Cowboys dont seem to want to draft offense, let alone a QB, so I guess he's it. He's pretty good, but we need a new OC..

Ding ding ding
we have a winner.

No surprise to me that the Cowboys didnt win a playoff game and continued their decade long streak of not winning a playoff game.

Romo was a huge step up from Bledsoe, but the Romo for Hall of Fame talk was just comical.  He's a nice QB to have, but not a great QB, but much, much better than Bledsoe.

What this team really needs is a better OLine and a real RB, and maybe a safety who can cover a pass route.

by DJCahill on Jan 7, 2007 6:36 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No
Not really much better than Bledsoe.

by Sharky on Jan 8, 2007 2:35 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Much, much better
than the immobile, slow releasing Bledsoe.

You'd understand this if you knew anything about football.

by DJCahill on Jan 8, 2007 4:32 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well
He isn't distinguishably better than Bledsoe. I would have prefered Bledsoe in there.

Romo had the advantage of a lot better playcalling. Bledsoe would be better on an even field.

by Sharky on Jan 8, 2007 5:56 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Oh
And Bledsoe has a lot stronger arm.

While being less mobile.

But taller and more experienced.

Keep going
I am having a good laugh

by shallrelicme on Jan 8, 2007 8:38 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well
You have to change playcalling when you have a slow deciding statue like Bledsoe in there and you get a guy who makes quick decisions, right or wrong, and can move, like Romo.

If Bledsoe was able to make decisions quickly and get rid of the ball quickly, he could have survived his lack of mobility.  Unfortunately, by the time he got around to figuring out who to throw it to, he was likely eating dirt or under too much pressure to make a throw.

Theres a reason Bledsoe, for all his strong arm, only has a career 77 QBR.

Bad offensive coordinators?

He played on bad teams?
Oohh.

He made pretty much every team he went to better, including Dallas.

6-10 to 9-7. With an ~84 QB rating (not that anybody really gives a shit about QB rating).

Give Bledsoe the same chances Romo got, and there's no question he's a better QB.

by Sharky on Jan 9, 2007 7:43 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I see the mighty Tom Brady
Has all of an 87 rating this season.

So, according to QB rating, he's similar to Drew Bledsoe in 2005 (albeit with a much better team around him, the packed to the gills with talent 3 time wotld champ patriots, so if you adjust for that, well, he's way worse than Bledsoe one would assume).

It's also pretty funny how AJM continues to mock co-ordinators, when there almost isn't any question about how important they are any more.

I lost track of how many OC's were replaced in mid-season this year. I think that says it all. If the position is so unimportant, it's pretty strange that reality says otherwise. And so do the Houston Texans. With a real football GM. That got them nowhere. Year after year. So they brought in a OC to coach.

You take the best GM in football (whoever that is, as I think GM's are pretty much a dead breed by now) and I'll take, Urban Meyer, or Cam Cameron, or Mike Shanahan,  and I will destroy you every. Single. Year.

New England got better
the instant he was benched.  The Cowboys got better the instant he was benched.

i love the way you read into things Sharky
you said this -

"Oh and this diary.."isn't it great how Tony took responsibility!" So he made a sucky play, people turn into how great he is. I can only imagine people would have done the same if Bledsoe was that holder.."

i never said that Tony Romo was great or it would make him great. i said that "I Think" it will make him a better person and ultimately quarterback because he took responsibility for his own actions, unlike most atheletes today. You of all people should understand that being a Republican.

Go Eagles!
you jackin' it?

by chief on Jan 7, 2007 12:32 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Because they're a better team
Ten times better than the Cowboys.  I hate HATE the homerism for the Cowboys.  They're not a good team.
you jackin' it?

by chief on Jan 7, 2007 12:36 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

But
why the Eagles?

Why not the Saints or someone who has a chance?

by miles on Jan 7, 2007 12:39 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Eagles
You don't think they have a chance?  I think they're the best team in the NFC right now.  Thank god McNabb got hurt.  They should roll easily into the Super Bowl, where they will promptly get beat down by the Chargers.
you jackin' it?

by chief on Jan 7, 2007 12:41 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

To explain
I'm an NFC guy, just like I am an AL guy.  I want the NFC to win, but they can't stop San Diego...
you jackin' it?

by chief on Jan 7, 2007 12:43 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The NFC
is so horrible right now I guess there is no telling who will go...

Colts or Chargers coming out of AFC facing the Saints...

BAL-CHI
Worst super bowl matchup EVER.

Final Score- 12-9

Then all we can look forwaard to is the lame Jessica Simpson Pizza Hut commercials

Smart business decisions? Let's just win some ball games

saints
i think they go to the superbowl, they've been playing well and the nfl has probably rigged the games to let them win to make it a good story.
ok, so i'm kidding about the last part, but i still take the saints to go.
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

As someone who
doesn't really care much for football and hates how much attention the Cowboys get around here, I'm enjoying this.  he he.

by t ball on Jan 7, 2007 6:24 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

The Eagles
will be lucky to win tonight.

Either way if the NFC sucks so bad that they do win it, the Ravens will beat them by 30.

So chief.....
you only like teams that are good??? Man, ur a fair weather fan. I love my teams no matter if they are good are bad!! Homerism? What? They are our home team, why shouldn't we be homers? So should we be following the PHILADELPHIA Eagles in DALLAS just because they are good? Being a fan is not pulling for the team that is doing good at the time. I love the Rangers just as much when they are eliminated from the playoffs the same as when they are in 1st place(which is basically never).

I never said you should follow the Eagles.  I said I think the Eagles will win the NFC championship.
you jackin' it?

you said "Go Eagles!"
that indicates that you are hoping they do well.  I can objectively think that the Eagles will win the NFC championship and at the same time hate their guts and root for their failure.

I like to be right
I picked them to win, so of course I'll cheer them.

Thank you
I hate all the hate for being a home team fan.  Being a Homer is bad when you are a "journalist" or when you try to say things like "The Rangers are the best team in baseball, they just have bad luck and the umpires hate all things Texas!"  I find it more annoying when I see people wearing hats and jerseys of the most recent champion.  All the UT hats and shirts are getting really old.

I had to stop rooting for the Saints this year because of all the "Storybook" crap.
