Tex Clutch??

Maybe it's just me but was Tex clutch this year?  Maybe didn't pay too much attention to his few months in Atlanta but if he was that clutch wouldn't they be in the playoffs?

well
not one of those players is still in the playoffs so eh to playoffs in that one.

if you want to use stuff like batting with runners in scoring position, 2 outs and such tex was definitely big in those situations.

.405 avg/.548 obp/.740 slugging with RISP.

1.318 ops with risp and 2 outs.

was brought to atlanta to help psuh them into the playoffs, and while the rest of the team didnt hold up their end he did set some braves records and was one of the best hitters in the NL over that stretch.

so, given that its a meaningless fluff award and tex at least came up big on the surface stats then you know.. whatever.

Teix = clutch, tough Q though
A 163 OPS+ over 54 games, many of which were important until they completely collapsed, sort of renders it rhetorical.

Then I guess
the Rangers haven't had any clutch players in the '00s.

Mike Young can't be clutch
the Rangers have finished 3rd and 4th since he has been here.  By the original poster's criteria, he can't be clutch.

Career Stats

Close and Late
Michael Young .265/.304/.368
Mark Teixeira .265/.360/.518

2 Out, RISP
Michael Young .351/.422/.464
Mark Teixeira .297/.421/.671

Tie game
Michael Young .299/.347/.448
Mark Teixeira .284/.381/.537

In all clutch situations, Teixeira was simply better.  I think this "Teixeira is not clutch and Michael Young is clutch" says a helluva lot more about the person making the statements quality of perception than anything else.

The "Michael Young is Clutch" is the same thing as "Derek Jeter is Clutch".

how can you say that?
Where in those stats does it say anything about being clutch?  Maybe slugging? maybe a point higher of obp with 2outs,risp.  I think you have to rethink your argument.  If I recall last year Mike young had one of the best average with runners in scoring position.  What did tex give ya.  Medicore numbers for two years and one good year.  I'll take mike and his over 800 hits anyday of the week.

Last year
Michael young got most of his hits after the Rangers were out of contention.  I don't think there were any clutch hits in 2007 after the team, and especially Michael Young, rolled over the first two months.

ok Cahill
We get it. You really, really, really hate Michael Young.
But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

I don't see
how comparing him to Jeter, and using the same "clutchness" criteria that is used on Teixeira means I "hate" him.

I do think he is locally one of the most overrated players I've seen in a while, but he isn't a bad player.  It's just that he comes nowhere close to living up to some of the hype folks put on him.

He's an .800 OPS SS with a mediocre glove.  If folks want to call that greatness, more power to them.

I would think...
Matt Holliday would be on that list.
