OT: NFL buffoons and bojanglers?

Interesting article that is generating plenty of responses over at Foxsports.com.  Thought some on here might like to read.

Heh
I think, only a black columnist can get away with writing that article. That's what I think.

You know, cus that's how America is.

Heh
I am now chilled by the proximity of my opinion to Sharky's.

Hmm
I don't know if there's anything to that, but It's certainly interesting.
I can say with 100% certainty, though, that if the article's writer was white he would be out of a job faster than I could complete this response.

To the substance
Do I think somehow white players will dominate NFL rosters soon? No. Not athletic enough.

So, there's really not much there. His premise is flawed.

His other premise, about "hip hop culture", yeah, he's totally right about that. It's awful. Liberal media+liberal politicians plays a big part in enabling+encouraging that, of course.

I sent our other...
brother Sam an article about a kid not getting their diploma because of a rule against cheering during graduation ceremony at a high school, and he told me that he thought black people and white people should have separate graduation ceremonies.  Of course, if you look at Dunbar, O.D. Wyatt, and, say, Nolan, I'd say we already are at that point.

"hip hop culture" is not to blame
More white people purchase hip hop albums than blacks.

I don't really have an opinion one way or the other re: the buffoonery.

I think it's entertaining to see what they will do next. I appreciate the creativity of the Chad Johnsons and T.O.'s of the world, and I think you'll continue to see them enjoy themselves playing the game, regardless of fines and punishments.

Pacman Jones / Tank Johnson / Leonard Little, et al -- not much admirable about them. But can we enjoy the entertainers at least?

Beyond hip-hop:

Beyond hip-hop link, FWIW
I guess it doesn't work if you just click on it, you get redirected to a login page for no reason.

Copy and paste the URL into your browser and I think it works from there ...

Hmmm...
well, "More white people purchase hip hop albums than blacks."

That doesn't really mean a whole lot.  There are a lot more white people... black people are only 11% of the population.

It wasn't meant to be profound
Just something to keep in mind. I'd be interested to hear what the percentages are.

Black people have...
been pretty consistently in the 11-13% of the population range for some time.

Percentages I was referring to
were what percentage of blacks / whites / hispanics / etc. are purchasing hip hop albums and listening to hip hop regularly.

Not sure if that's available, I assume it is somewhere.

as fragmented as the music industry is now
the percentages probably aren't that high, especially when you consider that a small number of people are buying multiple singles/albums.

Well, hip-hop culture exists because
there's money in it.

And rappers don't earn money based on what percentage of people in each ethnic group buy their album.  They earn money for each album they sell.  So population percentages are pretty irrelevant here.

I find it funny
that the examples that Whitlock lists are Chad Johnson, Tank Johnson, Pacman Jones - all playing positions dominated by blacks, even on the patriots and colts.

Shouldn't be about race
should be about stupidity.  NFL owners now have more reason than ever to eliminate idiots from their rosters.

Leave it to Whitlock to reduce it to race
+1

I chortled when I read this thought from the comment section of the article:

"'NFL owners and coaches a justifiable reason to whiten their rosters.'

Justifiable? Is being a white athlete a problem Mr. Whitlock. If you weren't black, you'd have nothing to write about."

A lot of truth to that.
