BP: PECOTA Predictions?
I've seen this linked around the intertubes and was wondering if anyone has a subscription so we could have some insight into how accurately PECOTA predicted the 2007 standings.

Just a simple "yes, it predicted really freaking well" or "nah, they were about 50/50" would be fine.

Looks like...
Still, fairly impressive. Looks like the only glaringly misplaced teams are the Twins, Rockies and Mariners. Way, way, way off on Giants, D-Rays, A's & Rangers records though.
Thanks, Cahill.

Wins and PECOTA
I'm gonna check this theory, with a randomly chosen >95-win team...
Randomly chosen year: 1997.
Randomly chosen team: Baltimore.
Interestingly enough, I could only find two flukish years, both in the pitching staff: SP Scott Kamieniecki and RP Randy Myers.
However, they had a bunch of players (Mussina, Key, Erickson, Alomar, Anderson, Surhoff, Hoiles, Hammonds, Benitez, Orosco, Rhodes) all performing at peak levels at the same time. Not exactly fluky career years, but all of those guys were performing at established peak levels, and nobody really underperformed. They got lucky in the sense that nobody really had an off year, basically.
So anyway, PECOTA will tend to smush the win distributions together because it's not going to predict perfect storms of performance like that.

N.L.
Predicted Phillies, Cubs and D-Backs as the division winners, with the Padres being in a one game playoff for the wild card (against the Mets, rather than the Rockies).
Predicted Angels, Twins and Yanks in the A.L., with the BoSox as wild card.

I'd say that was a great job......
Even in the AL they got 3 of 4 playoff teams. Although I'd say the 3 they hit were pretty obvious.
