Buck rumor

Just read this on Yahoo:
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/rumors/post/Showalter-a-long-shot-for-Pittsburgh-job-;_ylt=AjR40KEEFbVmp c5Y9mE4t00RvLYF?urn=mlb,48142

Buck Showalter is rumored to have a shot at the Pirates manager job.  I don't really have an opinion on his merits, just thought it might be interesting to discuss.

That doesn't surprise me
I figured his name would come up, since he's with Cleveland right now, and a Cleveland front office guy was given the job.

I don't know if Coonelly would want someone like Buck, who wants to take such an active role in all aspects of the team, as manager, though.

There's already talk that Huntington was hired, in part, because he was willing to secede more control to Coonelly than most g.m.s would.

Ever see that commercial
for the Samsung HDTV where the football players are polishing their shoes and the mascot is making sure every hair on the uniform is in perfect order, all because of how much detail the Samsung HDTV shows?

Know who's watching that Samsung HDTV that closely? Buck Showalter.

I think
he would be great for the job.  There aren't any veterans for him to use so he would have to play the young players.  His military type rules and order would be good for a young team.

Showalter
He'd probably fit in there.  Remember that the Rangers were perennial 70 game-winners before he arrived.  He got them to a certain point, which worth something.  Just have to know when to let the guy go.
