Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Alex Rodriguez out of New York?

Now that the playoffs are over for the Yank-shes and A-Rod didn't carry the team (a mere 4-15) like all the NY fans expected his salary to, where will he end up next year?

No, it's not official.  And I know there have been plenty of diaries on this very topic this season, but somebody had to start the offseason speculation and I sure as hell wasn't going to let that somebody be the Snarky 3000.

Poll on the right.

I would rather start the speculation
On why dont the Yankees hire a minority manager?

Or maybe we could trade them Ron Washington. I'm sure they'd love that.

Leonard Davis, the best NFL player of all time. Except maybe for Greg Ellis, obviously.

Don't feel like making a diary
but Detroit picked up Pudge's option today apparently.  Don't know if this makes it any less likely Arod would go to DET.

and
the team is saying they'll keep Inge at 3B next year.  That still leaves room for Arod at SS I guess.

I can't imagine why
they picked up that option.

i think
its entirely possibly he goes to any of the tigers, angels, cubs or back with the yankees

id say angels, tigers/cubs, yankees but i think that he goes to the angels

and i dont think that 300 mil is out of the scope of reality...

by knockoutking24 on Oct 9, 2007 11:34 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I think
He'll replay the Clemens bit for a while.  (not seriously, but!)

NY Press:  Alex, where do you think you'll play next?  And why?

ARod:  One nice option would be back to Texas. Mr. Hicks is great to work for and with.  And just visualize, me and Mike and Hank and Kevin and Vicente and 20 kids.  What a future!

NY Press: Ummm, we hadn't thought about that.

Just for kicks
as it is Tom Hicks' money... I am in no way endorsing this, just throwing it out there.

2b Kinsler
OF Cat
SS Young
3b ARod
1b Blalock
DH Botts
OF Byrd
C Saltalamacchia
OF Cruz

In reality - ARod goes to the West Coast.  Lets pray it isn't Anaheim.

Sadly
even with Arod in the lineup it still looks a bat (or 2) short.

Young in the 3 hole
bad lineup, despite how great A-Rod is.

Doesn't Young have
completely godawful 3 hole stats?  Any plan that doesn't have him in the 2 hole is pretty much a non starter in my opinion.

He's not an ideal #3 hitter
but this team lacks one of those right now...

Really, the Rangers are without a legit #3 or #4 hitter as it stands today.

by JBImaknee on Oct 9, 2007 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

piling on
we really don't have a legit 5-hole hitter either.

I don't want Arod
but going with your lineup.  I rather see

Cat
Young
Blalock
AROD
Kinsler
Byrd
Salty
Murphy
Botts

I think Blalock would benefit A LOT by seeing better pitches since AROD is hitting behind him.

by Coolbean04 on Oct 9, 2007 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

HE'S THE BEST PLAYER IN BASEBALL!!!
Why wouldn't you want him?!! also, why would you take Young out of the 3 hole? He's great there. I'd rather see:

Kinsler
Rowand
Young
A-rod
Bonds
Blalock
Salty
Byrd
Murphy

....better open the wallet though.

by texaschief on Oct 9, 2007 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

"the 3 hole? He's great there."
would you care to substantiate?

He hit 82 OPS points higher in the 2nd spot.

Not to mention, you can't have someone slugging .418 be expected to drive in runs consistently. He would be overmatched. The stats bear it out: Young slugged .396 in 424 AB's from the 3 spot, whereas .460 from the 2nd spot over 215 AB's.

Similar numbers hold true for '06 as well.

The Third Spot
That's no place for a hacker.  Blalock's a 5th or 6th hitter at best (in a decent lineup).
Ctrl - V

I'd love to see it happen.
But I think you move ARod back to short and either put Young at 1st or put Young at 3rd with Blalock moving across the diamond.  That would improve the infield defense quite a bit.

And I think you'd have to bat ARod 3rd with Young hitting 2nd and Blalock 4th.

Like I said, I'd love to see it happen.  It would definitely make our offense and defense better.  But Hicks won't do it ... and neither will ARod.

Move Young to 2B.......
Kinsler to LF.....ARod to SS

Never knew til today:
The season might not be the only thing ending for Rodriguez, whose agent Scott Boras must announce within 10 days of the end of the World Series or by Nov. 10 whether A-Rod will waive the final four years of his landmark $252 million contract and become a free agent.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2007/10/09/2007-10-09_arod_may_have_played_last_d ay_in_pinstri.html

Not so far away.  I didn't know there was a hard deadline attached to this thing.

Crazy to think Boras will have to take the temperature on the FA market so quickly.  Almost seems like a case for borderline tampering?

by hightowersmith on Oct 10, 2007 12:03 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Boras...hahahaha!
"I think Alex could play very reasonably until he's 45. So you're talking about a situation where we want this guy to be identified with one franchise and one uniform for a very, very long time."

This guy (Boras) is unbelievable. Hicks let A-Rod loose for fear of an injury. And now? Boras is looking for another 10 year deal?

It's bananas.

Fear of injury
What?  I never heard that one before, and I tend to doubt it.

Most likely ARod will have a longer than usual career, but anyone who pays him a bigger deal than he got previously is nuts.

A-Rod Injury
When $250 million is on the line, the injury risk is higher than the norm. The urgency for trading A-Rod was definitely well beyond injury risk. I remember the logic being trade him now before he becomes "untrade-able" at some future point.

It's funny to me, NOW people are certain he's worth a bundle. And Boras will stress every positive in the world. Just like Zito. Who will probably play until he's 55.

There's a sucker born every minute.

by 3Bagger on Oct 10, 2007 2:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think
you kind of pulled that injury thing out of your ass unless you have some kind of link.

I think it had a lot more to do with Buck not liking Alex, and Alex not liking Buck, and Alex not wanting to be on a noncontending team for the forseeable future.

My memory or my ass?
Maybe I'm forgetful, but, can somebody help me? Does NO ONE OUT THERE remember the Rangers/Hicks spinning the need to trade A-Rod? And the reasoning? I'm pretty sure he used the  injury risk issue.

You'll need to pay me to do an internet search.

by 3Bagger on Oct 10, 2007 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Part II
BTW. Despite what I wrote, I was not trying to say that the injury issue was the only reason we traded A-Rod, I was just saying that 7 years after the $250 million contract, the injury risk is actually much higher now that he's 7 years older. Since Boras is apparently going for a very lucrative and long term deal, it seems a lot riskier now. And it was risky then.

like he was going to be in seattle...

Boras...
The guy crafts these messages. Part "touchee-feelie" and part stat logic.

It's like the movie voice-over guy:

"Imagine a world, where one mortal man dominates, destroys, crushes, he's...A_ROD___!"

And he wants to play in YOUR town forever.

by 3Bagger on Oct 10, 2007 2:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Boras...
...would be working for the Bush administration if his current job weren't so lucrative.
What's the deal with all the artists?

by RangerMoto on Oct 10, 2007 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No he wouldn't.
Boras is actually quite competent at what he does, which would disqualify him from serving.

Good point, Cahill.  He does have the money-grubbing fact-spinner thing going for him though.  That's what I was aiming at.
