Angels Trade Cabrera for Garland

Possibly a move to free up space for Brandon Wood, or maybe (as our friends over at halosheaven are saying) a precursor to a Miguel Tejada trade.

Maybe they could still sneak in on ARod?
If they throw $350M on the table at the last minute?

It would
be interesting to see if a team does that tho.  I imagine it happens.

Great pick up for the White Sox....
Probably a great great pick up, imo.

I'll
keep my fingers crossed they use Santana to get Tejada and not Cabrera.

by BHill on Nov 19, 2007 12:11 PM CST reply actions

that's it?
Seems like the Sox could (should?) have gotten more for Garland, not that he's great or anything but he's a pitcher with a pulse and those seem to be very hot comodities

Solid trade for both sides
Cabrera is underrated, imo.

And Garland is a solid starter who has had some success in the past. The Angels have some serious depth on the mound. I hate them.

Its hard for me to
decide who I hate more, the Mariners of the 90's or the Angels of the 00's.  Id have to say the savvy pitching Angels.

It seems out of
balance to me. A 33 yr old shortstop for a 28 yr old starter that had back to back 18 win seasons.

what is interesting
AP is reporting it like the Angels gave up a lot in a good hitting, gold glove shortstop

I'm not sure whether to call this win-win or lose-lose

Personally
I'd rather have Garland, but that doesn't mean much.

Garland/Cabrera
both become free agents after next year.

Bad Move by the White Sox
The once pitching-rich White Sox are now trading away their third best pitcher (according to ERA+).  The problem is that Danks, Floyd, and Contreras were below average.  I wonder who will take Garland's place?  There is nothing wrong with trading a player in their last year, it may indicate the inability of the White Sox to resign him.  But, why not try to get some younger, cheaper players who will be under team control for a few years?  Didn't the White Sox just resign Uribe?  Do they plan on flipping one of them?  How about trading Crede?  I don't get it; with the offseason so young, and such a poor selection of pitchers, you would think that they could have gotten more than Cabrera.

The Angels are now overcoming the loss of Colon.  If they wanted to, they could trade a pitcher for whomever they wanted.

That site rules. The "Ricky debate" was particularly funny, if you haven't seen it.
