Rangers re-sign Vazquez
Per mlb.com, http://tinyurl.com/yvg957
No specifics as to salary in the press release, but seeing as it's a one year deal, and Vazquez was eligible for arbitration, it can't be too much. He works as a utility infielder type, I suppose.
They also signed 27 year old infielder Ryan Roberts to a minor league deal with a spring training invite. Roberts was .077/.200/.192 in 26 ABs over the past two years in Toronto, and had a .769 OPS in AAA last year. He went to UTA.

zywica wont be happy =p
anyway, it seems like we should have been able to find a better utility IF, but since I cant name one of them... i guess its ok. just hopefully we wont have massive injuries that get im 300 at bats or whatever.

overplays them?
hank blalock was practically gone for the season... and travis metcalf was a rookie, Double-A call-up...
i suppose hairston jr. was a better option at third base?...

young to 3rd; kinsler to SS
Wash overplays scrubby utility guys. What is so hard to grasp about that?

Yeah that would be me
As far as giving ABs to Vazquez, yeah, in all honesty I'd rather not give a single one to him, but my issue is mostly that you have a manager that LOVES to play this player (the player in this role), so why not upgrade it?

would i rather get kicked in the nuts
how about, we don't waste money on any big contract guys this year and wait till next year?
maybe fukodome, but he'd probably be priced out of our range.
and actually, i'd rather they get rowand and I personally think they should get andruw jones (despite a lot of evidence and logic telling me he's done)

I'm skeptical of Laird's value too

vaz
I was just looking at Vazquez horrible batting line that you posted, and thinking to myself: "what a pathetic excuse for a hitter", then I realized that his line was superior to Laird's in every category.
I also think that the Estrada-Mota deal gives us an idea about Laird's trade value. JD might not even be able to move him for anything useful at all.
