OT: Stars on a roll

5-0-1 since general manager Doug Armstrong and team president Jim Lites were fired.

Jokinen has emerged as a real threat, tearing it up on the power play. Hagman is off to a fast start with 10 goals in 23 games. Not bad, considering that Armstrong got him from Florida for a 7th round pick. Morrow is doing his thing: dropping dimes and leading the team in points with 22 and +10 when he is on the ice.

Question: should Smith play more than Turco?

Marty Turco
methinks he can pack his bags. He's about to be traded. We have a more than capable backup in Tobias Stephan waiting in Iowa.

Two problems
  1. Turco's salary is tough to deal
  2. Are you sure that Stephan is more than capable? The impression that I get from Razor's comments is that he's pretty shaky at this point.

ok
trade Mike Smith while his value is high.

Personally
I think that's more likely. Brett Hull claimed on the radio the other day that they want to keep both of them, but he'd be crazy to say anything but that.

You think Turco's salary is tough to deal
You should think about Mikey Mo's salary

That makes no sense
The Stars aren't going to trade Modano.

Makes plenty of sense
Turco is not going to be traded either.

Do question me when it cmes to the Dallas Stars

You might want to consider
previewing your posts before you post.

Agreed, Z
Dealing Modano would completely remove any marketability the Stars have. The dude is a local icon for a franchise that's completely lacking fanfare and excitement. It would be asolutely asinine to deal the guy.
Besides, It's not as if his value is sky-high.

Same with Marty Turco
That has been my point

No, It's not the same
Modano has been with this franchise since day one. He's a handsome, flashy golden boy scorer-type who likes to smile and wave. He was here when this team won the championship.
Turco wears a mask for the full duration of the game, is constantly criticized for failing to live up to unreasonably high expectations, and has a very capable substitute that people are taking to.
Now, it may be that Smith is just 'The other guy', as Chuch was for Q-Car. But who knows? Until we find out, if Turco continues to be average, people will still want him gone.

you don't know much about Marty Turco.

Hey, I'm a big time Nikey Mo fan.

But to get rid of Turco is wrong

It's All Due To
Hully, according to Razor.

so
did he tell Tippett to change the style of play?

Dunno
I am merely regurgitating what Razor said on the Musers this week. He said Hull brings a new energy to the team. Something seems to be different, no?

ha
like gms have anything to do with the "energy" of a team.

I think they can in a certain way
In the NHL, I think that the GM is very close to the team. I know that Armstrong travelled with them a fair amount, and he was very close to the game process.

That said, if his fresh energy is a factor, it probably won't sustain itself, and he and his partner are going to actually have to make good managerial moves to be successful.

As Zywica said
Yes, they do in hockey. And really, in any other sport, or business for that matter. If the guy on top, the ultimate decision-maker is changed out, that change brings in a breath of fresh air, however short-lived it may be.

Is the new boss a workers friend, or just another rich a-hole? Let the proletariot always hope for the best, as they always will, until proven incorrect. Jeepers, it happens at manufacturing plants all across the nation, why would it be so different in the most blue-collar of sports, hockey?

I disagree
the players play hard know matter who the GM is, at least in baseball. You show me stats in people's career where they play differently because of a different GM.

GM
Most GM's aren't retired HOF-caliber players, who also won a title as a player with the team that they're now GM of.

Hull being co-GM of the Stars would be like Roger Clemens becoming GM of the Yankees.

Hull
I'm saying he might carry a little more respect in the locker room than the average GM, and might get the team to play a little harder than Doug Armstrong because of that.

Brett Hull
go ahead and make him GM.
Merill Hodge = Skip Bayless < Mark May...yeah, that's saying something.

He already is
I believe.

This is a sorta test-run to see if he wants the gig...but you know he does. Competition is why he didn't have a twin, eh?
