OT - Atlanta Falcons
Sorry to hijack the diary thread for a topic as unrelated to the Rangers as the Falcons, but I wanted to find out if anyone here feels that there are fans of any team that have it worse off than Falcons fans.

Damn...I sure know how to pick crappy teams to follow.

Starting Over Again
Get a new coach. Petrino was making no friends and had big contract. Now, I suspect we see an up and comer coordinator who knows the Pro Game (it was good for a while with Mora, I guess). I would bet on a minority hire.
Get some cap room. If the Vick money is paid back, that's a bunch of dough to spend.
Early 1st round pick. Seemed a lock to take Brohm. Guess that is blown up now.
Heck, we even have a 1,000 yard WR. Good TE. Good potential RB.
Hell, this is a load. Birds are pretty bad. But hopefully it can't get worse.

"up and comer coordinator "
Sign him as HC, draft Brohm, blow the rest of the team up and rebuild.

Garrett
Cowher will be rumored, but I don't know if he'd really sign on to caoach this mess (although I think he'd get a real shot at having complete control to build from scratch).
Keep:
Roddy White
Jerious Norwood
Michael Boley
Chris Houston
John Abraham
Jamaal Anderson
Blow the rest up.

Petrino/Saban
If Michael Vick never gets arrested, does Petrino stay?
There is just something so slimy and wrong about both departures.

Petrino
pulling harrington (whe he was doing good) only to have leftwich get hurt and have to put harrington back in the line up
and giving carries to dunn that SHOULD have been going to norwood.
the kid is averaging 6.2 YPC (.1 ahead of peterson) over 75 carries.
with guys over 50 carries, below him is selvin young at 5.7, correll buckhalter at 5.3, chester taylor at 5.3, ronnie brown at 5.1, jason campbell at 5.1, marion barber at 5.0
the guy doesnt have over 9 carries in any game
carries by game:
5, 9, 6, 9, 6, 6, 6, 6, 0 (sprained ankle), 2, 6, 8, 6
quote from petrino
Coach Bobby Petrino said after Sunday's game that the reason Warrick Dunn has dominated the backfield this year is because of his reliability. (this is after dunn had 10 carries for 17 yards vs norwood's 8 for 94 and had 3 catches for 21 yards)
last year the guy averaged 6.4 YPC over 99 rushes. give him a chance!
wow. the falcons also have yet to score over 16 pts in a game...they are avg'ing 14.2 pts/game. so much for his vaunted offense...

Who called plays in ATL?
That's what I'd be curious to know.
A lot of times these offensive gurus may not actually call plays. Then they are at the mercy of their OC's, who may be crappy.
Not following teams directly, it's often hard to tell who's calling plays.
If you can get a head coach who is a good offensive mind who calls plays though, that's the ideal situation. I'd have been interested if Petrino was that guy, and actually failed in ATL. I suspect he doesn't call plays. Then when he went to ATL he prolly picked up some crappy OC, where he had a good one in college.
It's possible also they just had a poor defense+adjustment period.
Petrino sure cut and ran quick..

Found this...
ATLANTA -- Wasting no time in starting to assemble his staff, new Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino has hired Hue Jackson as his offensive coordinator.
Jackson, 41, served as the Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers coach the past three seasons.
Petrino said Monday, during his introductory press conference, that he will call the plays, just as he did during his four years as the Louisville head coach. Jackson, though, figures to have considerable input into game preparation and, as coordinator, will interact with quarterback Michael Vick
btw, DeAngelo Hall just slammed Petrino on Sportscenter.

The Worldwide Leader, getting nasty
"Bobby Petrino will return your embrace, Hog fans. But while he's hugging you he'll be looking over your shoulder, scanning the terrain for his next hook-up.
"Even in a profession rife with dishonest posturing, Petrino is singularly mercenary. Loyalty, allegiance, commitment and honesty are foreign concepts to him. It must be a sad existence."
