OT: Petrino Splits ATL for ARK
well, if it couldn't get any worse for the falcons it just got a bit easier... this is a franchise in desperate need of rebuilding and having to pay to get rid of Petrino would have only made it more difficult... as well as if he had stayed and picked brohm with their 1st round pick... which, i think, would have been a mistake... either way Petrino is now the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Falcons are probably just as glad to not have to pay to fire him...

Petrino is live on espn
However, you can't blame him for leaving the suckass Falcons. That team is one sorry ass pathetic mess.
How sweet it is to be a Cowboys fan

Uh..
You can't? I sure can. I'm no Falcons fan, but I'd be pretty pissed off. It was a despicable move. If i'm Arthur Blank, I'm pissed. If I'm any Falcons player, I'm pissed.
13 games. That's it! How do you take advice, as a college player, from a guy who cut and ran ASAP because he job was too hard. He's going to say he longed for the college game, but we know that's bullshit.
He longed for Michael Vick, and he never got him.

Who cares?
Its not like his leaving ruins the Atlanta season or anything. I just don't get the outrage in a league where folks get hired and fired all the time.

Petrino
That he's leaving 2 million on the table to leave ATL and come here is pretty telling.
Blank certainly does not appear to be pissed at him. The one he needs to be pissed at, and is pissed at, is the canine executor.

Blank and Vick
You are also 100% correct on the fact that the situation now is not what Petrino walked in to. I've got no bones with him leaving.
However, Blank has reason to be pissed off at Petrino. Blank addressed the Arkansas rumors with Petrino on Monday before the game against NO.
Petrino told Blank that he would not be going to Arkansas and would be back to coach the Falcons in 2008. Blank then went on the air and spoke about Petrino in glowing terms.
Then, he pulls this on them.
Petrino had every chance to let Blank know that he was considering other offers. He told him flat-out 'No' and then walked away. Blank should be pissed at him.

you're probably right
Petrino's probably something of a dick but as a Hogs fans, I'm glad he's here.

If any of this is true...
http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/falcons/stories/2007/12/12/deal_1213.html
Here's an excerpt:
After getting the parameters of the contract terms he would be able to offer Petrino, he boarded a private plane with Scott Varady, the school's associate general counsel.
They landed at Fulton County Airport at 1:30 p.m. and went to an undisclosed downtown location to meet with Petrino and his agent. The meeting started at 2 p.m. and did not last long. After a short discussion, Long and Petrino agreed on the basic outline of a deal. The details of the contract were turned over to Campbell and Varady.
Petrino returned to Falcons headquarters in Flowery Branch and walked into McKay's office to resign. He then called Blank. "When he called me for the 30-second conversation after he resigned, I said to him, 'I assume you're going to Arkansas,' Blank told the Journal-Constitution. "He said he didn't know what he was going to do. I swear to God. He never admitted then that he was going to Arkansas."
Very, very unprofessional.

Hogs
They're gone.
Yeah, we'll probably suck next year, thanks to the Nuttster leaving the cupboard virtually barren beyond Felix and D-Mac (particularly by failing to recruit/running off any SEC caliber WRs). But Petrino is a solid recruiter and I think we'll be back on track by 2009, particularly if Joe Adams and Tyler Wilson come back into the fold for U of A now that Petrino is in, as is already being rumored.

HAHHAHA
I love how Hall said that Arkansas won't even be good, just funny that he ripped them because he is pissed at Petrino...
But that would also piss me off to see my coach that was on the sidelines a day ago doing some dumbass Hog dance in a press conference to become the new head coach.
But Petrino is a D-Bag, just like Saben...
