Official Mitchell Report List

This would appear to be the official aggregated list:

http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/12/13/mitchells-list/

A TON of ex-Giants & A's, which would be expected.  The names that jump out at me and made me point and laugh: Kevin Brown, Dykstra, Gagne, Ankiel, FP Santangelo, Stanton.

I was sort of hoping for a really big sleeper name like Ripken or Gwynn or Jeter or Sandberg.  But obviously exclusion from this list doesn't indicate innocence.

No Sosa or McGwire
that to me is a shocker(a small one at least).

by Parman on Dec 13, 2007 3:35 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I know
that their names are mentioned in the report, but they may already viewed as guilty, at least McGwire anyway.  I too am surprised the Sosa omission.

Julio
Glad to see Julio Franco's name not on this list.  Sure did like that guy when he was a Ranger.  Love the fact he's still playing.

Franco
I've always understood Steroids to lead to a batter's physical breakdown more quickly.  Based on that idea, I'm not surprised Franco, Henderson or even Lofton have played late into their 30s and into their 40's.

Actually
HGH actually helps you stay young longer.

example
that steroids don't work: Jerry Hairston Jr.

Not necessarily.
For JHJ, steroids might have meant the difference between a career in the minors and a shot at the big leagues.  Steroids aren't going to automatically make a fringe guy a stud.  You still have to have the underlying ability.  As seen with Bonds, it can make a 40 HR guy a 70 HR guy, but it's not going to produce those results for a guy like Chad Allen or JHJ.

True
I am not surprised at the age of some of the players on the list.  I think the biggest benefit may be the longevity it provides.  Clemens probably would not have hung on long enough to reach 300 wins if it wasn't for juice.

Funny Stuff
I have to say I am pretty happy with the report.  No Ripken, no Ryan, Griffey, Blalock, Young or Salts.  The big name guys are not guys that I have liked and I have always been suspicious of (not sure which happened first).  Love that Hairston and GMJuiced are on there.

Little disappointed that Barajas and Sosa didn't make the list.

The fact that players
weren't on the list doesn't mean they were innocent.  The names on the list primarily come from just 2 trainers.

Ok
that doesn't change the fact that I like this list.  I will get a knot in my stomach again in about six months or whenever the next "big break in the steroid scandal" comes out.  But I still like this list.

From
what I understand there could be up to 25 more names to surface.  Is what everyone else is hearing?  I have been at work and have only looked into this for 30 minutes or so.

Names
Mitchell only listed names that he could corroborate or where he otherwise had clear evidence (like copies of checks the players used to purchase PEDs).  He mentions that he left out some names because he didn't have enough proof.  He also specifies that some names could not be listed due to confidentiality agreements.  I'm not sure how many other players he has info on but decided to not print for whatever reason.

FP Santangelo
He's on a morning sports talk show out here in Sacramento. Can't wait to hear what he says on Friday morning.

Again
Why isn't the government not going after Sheffield like they are Bonds?

by Longhorn on Dec 13, 2007 4:12 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well
Bonds lied to the feds...Sheffield and Giambi didn't. That's the difference.

by slimshadty12 on Dec 13, 2007 4:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No
Sheffield lied too.

The government is out to get Bonds
Bonds is not a good man, and he probably cheated, but the truth is that the government wants Bonds punished, period.

Did Mitchell...
...contact you, BGL?  Or anyone you know about?  I don't want names...just curious what his process was for contacting players.

interesting...
...yeah, of course there's very little reason to guess that any of the younger Rangers were using PEDs since there's been random testing in the minors for a while now.

Thanks for the insight.

random observation...
There was a lot of noise made earlier in the year by Ozzie Guillen (silly Ozzie...) about how a disproportionate amount of the players failing drug tests were latin.

Now that the Mitchell Report is out, you now see a notable lack of latin players on the list.

Does anybody think the Mitchell group was too closed minded in their investigation to consider alternative means of getting steroids (other than internet/balco/etc) that would be available to someone from a less medically-rigorous country.

It's just something to caught my eye that I thought may have been overlooked, my internal devil's advocate.

Mitchell
had about 3 or 4 smoking guns that were willing to provide full cooperation including documumentation to serve as evidence. All of those witnesses had some motive to cooperate, as they were already in trouble. I think he tried to max out those witnesses and call it a day.

If MLB wants him to investigate and report on the steroid/hgh connections in Mexico and Latin America - well, that will probably cost another $30 million and then some.

Anyone else still wonder...
why it took Clemens half the year (perhaps the half he would have been tested in) to make his "decision" on if he would pitch the last 2 years.

Anyone remember his 50 HR season...he had to be on something!
