Jon Daniels

I think JD is doing a great job. He came in here with a veteran manager and tried the quick fix to win. It did not work. He has since started to build this barren organization from the ground up. He has made tremendous progress toward that end. He needs to keep accumulating talent with an eye towards 2010.

Agree
He gets blasted quite a bit, but if we only knew what all was going on I think some would back off a bit.  For instance, I think it's pretty great we got the return from the BoSox for Gagne when it was clear that Gagne's past steroid use was a major concern with clubs.  He got ripped early on for non-tendering Aki, but reading about the talks between JD and the White Sox we can see now that JD was smart in doing what he did.  If we can all be patient I think JD gets us competitive again.

I guess...
...the point was to have a discussion about JD.  Or maybe to get "regulars" such as yourself to b!tch a little bit.

On topic I also believe in the long term plan that JD is executing.  Unfortunately it will take longer than casual Ranger fan has the patience for, but with the current state of affairs I believe this is the only true path to success.

I know a lot of you guys go wayyy back to various Rangers boards and Blogs.  But when I scroll my mouse over your name the bottom-left of my screen says "177." Certainly top 10%, but not top 100.

Who cares?
I would rather be ranked 100,000 as long as I contributed to the conversation.

GM's
Junior is the worst GM this franchise has ever had.  And, most likely, the lowest paid.  He doesn't have a clue to what he is doing.

Just my opinion.

how much...
....worse is JD than John Hart???? i mean, you can be upset that he's accepted that the rangers aren't going to be good this year and won't spend money like they were... but calling him worse than john hart is just silly...

and 2 years ago
we had an eye towards 2008....just saying.

by SteveP on Dec 14, 2007 3:45 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

i disagree
2 years ago, we were coming off of an 88 win season and were in contention all they way until the last week of the season.  I would say we were looking towards getting a big free agent that could take us up one more level.  Rebuilding for 2008 was not on anyone's mind.

by trgordon723 on Dec 14, 2007 4:19 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

This
is very true.  But heading into that season we were rebuilding with low expectations and after that season we sucked some more.  So it just feels like eternal rebuilding mode.

by hubcityraider on Dec 14, 2007 4:34 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with gordon
Ever since Hicks bought the club he believed we were one player away. That he could buy his way into the playoffs and WS. He did it in hockey in the late 90s so why not baseball. It only took him almost a decade and a fresh young GM to tell him we needed to completely overhaul the thing for him to realize his way was wrong.

And for JD to do what he did in a 3 month span is unbelievable. Completely refreshed our farm system after years of neglect and bad drafting.
