OT: Cowboys / Eagles Game Thread

Matchup

W-L    PF   PA    HOME  ROAD  DIV   CONF
PHI  5-8    271  262   2-5   3-3   1-4   3-7
DAL  12-1   423  275   6-1   6-0   4-0   9-0

The Cowboys (12-1) come in having won seven straight since suffering their only loss of the season to New England on Oct. 14. Dallas rallied to win 28-27 last Sunday against the Detroit Lions to capture the NFC East title for the first time since 1998.

The Cowboys are now setting their sights on wrapping up a first-round bye with a win or a Seattle loss at Carolina on Sunday. They also could guarantee themselves home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs with a win and a Green Bay loss at St. Louis.

The Eagles have won five of their last seven visits to Dallas, including a 23-7 win on Dec. 25, 2006.

Another note: the Cowboys signed starting nose tackle Jay Ratliff, who took over the position when veteran Jason Ferguson was injured in the opening game of the year, to a five-year contract extension. I guess that solves the "who will replace Fergie long-term" question, although we control Tank Johnson through next year as well.

Scouts' Position Advantage:

QB - Dal
RB - Phi
WR - Dal
OL - Dal
DL - Dal
LB - Dal
DB - Phi
ST - Dal
Coach - Dal

Ferguson
He's not gonna be back next year?
Why do you hate freedom?

by Brian Thomas on Dec 16, 2007 2:46 PM CST   0 recs

Assuming that he heals up
well and they don't cut him to save money, yeah, I believe that he's signed for next year.

by zywica on Dec 16, 2007 2:48 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

not sure
but, i really hope Jones goes after Haynesworth next year.

by Longhorn on Dec 16, 2007 2:50 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Where would you play him?
Spears' spot? I wouldn't think that he'd want to play NT, nor does he seem like the right body type.

by zywica on Dec 16, 2007 2:53 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

yeah
He has the perfect body type for a NT. It would be a great fit for Wade's 3-4.

by Longhorn on Dec 16, 2007 2:59 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

He's 6-6
That is not ideal for a NT, who needs leverage, whether he's a Ted Washington type or even a Jay Ratliff type.

by zywica on Dec 16, 2007 3:29 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

And I'd add
that even as effective as Ratliff has been, he would be a monster in a 4-3, compared with NT.

by zywica on Dec 16, 2007 3:31 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Ratliff
is 6-4. I think Albert can play with leverage.

by Longhorn on Dec 16, 2007 3:34 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

FA
If Jones is going to make a splash for a FA on the defense, seems like Asante Samuel should be the guy. Adding a shut down corner like him would be the biggest improvement to the team imaginable.
LF platoon = Catalanatto and Byrd. CaTyrd for short?

by tricer on Dec 16, 2007 2:58 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Why not Trufant?
If he costs too much, we could trade Roy Williams to move up in the draft.

Move Hamlin to SS, Henry to FS.

Draft a receiver and a DE or RB.

If we can't sign a good corner, then draft one with the first pick.

But I agree, the secondary should be priority 1. Then get a receiver to eventually replace the Methusalehs we have now.

Why do you hate freedom?

by Brian Thomas on Dec 16, 2007 3:12 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

doubt it will happen
i think they roll with johnson and ferguson and release spears.

by ab03 on Dec 16, 2007 3:08 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

huh?
what does 2 NTs have anything to do with a DE?

by Longhorn on Dec 16, 2007 3:12 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

it makes sense of the ratliff extension
should have been more clear.  people were wondering if ratliff meant one of the NT was gonna get released.  I think they just move ratliff to DE.

I would like haynesworth as well but tenn will franchise him I don't think the dallas wants to go down that route

by ab03 on Dec 16, 2007 3:16 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Yeah
him vs. Gurode every day in practice, lol.

wade
good coach but why the hell does he take stupid challenges.  really annoying

by ab03 on Dec 16, 2007 3:32 PM CST   0 recs

true
But that is one of the rules I don't like.  He had three feet down, one knee, and two elbows.  It gets a little crazy after a while but a rule is a rule.

by baylor on Dec 16, 2007 3:37 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

so
even if that had been an endzone catch going out of bounds and just getting his feet in, and it bounced off the ground as he landed, it would be incomplete?

by DSheppard on Dec 16, 2007 3:41 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Yes
That is the rule.  It does not matter how many feet or knees you have inbounds if you are falling during the act of the catch.  If the ball comes out when you hit the ground it is not a catch.

by baylor on Dec 16, 2007 3:44 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

That was frustrating
First Hurd ruining such a terrific play, then Wade making it even worse by burning a timeout.

Doing it was dumb enough. Why in the world does he think he should argue that call. It looked like it was textbook. Maybe he thought he grabbed his shirt below the collar or something.

looks really out of synch so far.

by zywica on Dec 16, 2007 3:53 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

It should be 7-0
if Romo hadn't missed Owens so badly on that deep ball on the first drive.

by Chase Irwin on Dec 16, 2007 4:11 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

"so badly"?
he overthrew him by a few yards...  that happens half the time the ball is thrown deep.. on other teams anyway.

by DSheppard on Dec 16, 2007 4:17 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

No, sorry
that was a bad miss. I watched the replay 3 times.

He had plenty of time, a clear throwing lane, his best receiver with 2 full steps on his man, he simply airmailed it. Don't really care if it happens on other teams or not.

I still like Romo a lot, just saying. He has been way more accurate than that throughout this entire year. Missed opportunity -- T.O. knew it.

by Chase Irwin on Dec 16, 2007 4:24 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

That Hamlin hit
Looking at the replay, I can see why the Eagles are pissed.

Looks like a pretty clear helmet-to-helmet shot.

by Adam J. Morris on Dec 16, 2007 3:52 PM CST   0 recs

Definitely
Helmit-to-helmit and has to really hurt them with both of their top two TEs being out now.

by zywica on Dec 16, 2007 3:55 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

the only...
...reason the back judge didn't call it was the slight turn of his shoulder... later in the game, thats an easy PF 15 yarder... the eagles up front aren't real good right now... theres a lot of holding, and they'll start calling that a bit come late 3rd qrtr...

i can see how it didnt get called though
he did turn his shoulder at the last second.  the ref would have to have the perfect angle to be sure it was helmet to helmet.

Of course I'm not saying she looks bad
Just in general, though, I see her as the redneck masses idea of a hot woman. Especially after that stupid Dukes of Hazzard movie.

She definitly doesn't really attract me.

by Chase Irwin on Dec 16, 2007 5:06 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

meh, whatever.
at a certain point you just have to have built up enough confidence in this team that one bad half doesnt worry you.

romo has had a qb rating under 90 in ONE game.  im not even sure brady can say that.

a bad game is just a bad game, as long as they come back nicely next week.

and obviously this game is hardly over.  arnt even losing yet.

by DSheppard on Dec 16, 2007 4:43 PM CST   0 recs

TO
has the right to be pissed though. Romo is playing like Drew Henson and JG hasn't been utilizing TO like he has in the past...

by Longhorn on Dec 16, 2007 4:45 PM CST   0 recs

WTF?
and now they down it with 2 timeouts left? Atleast try and get into FG position. Pathetic.

by Longhorn on Dec 16, 2007 4:47 PM CST   0 recs

Matt Moore
was 19/27 for 208 yards and a win, and we play them next week.  Wouldn't that horrible if we lost to him next week?

Game thoughts
Romo looks like crap.

By and large defense is actually playing pretty good though.

GB with another blowout today, over a bad team or not.

NE suddenly looks like any other team. I could easily see deveral AFC teams, Indy at the top of the list, going to NE and punching them in the mouth in the playoffs.

by Sharky on Dec 16, 2007 5:02 PM CST   0 recs

I know I'm in the minority
But as a plow into the line on first down back, regardless what the numbers say, I think I like Julius Jones better than Marion Barber. He definitly has more speed to break one occasionally.

I wish the coaches would gain some consistency in the running game.

by Sharky on Dec 16, 2007 5:05 PM CST   0 recs

more speed to break one
and yet...

marion over 20: 7
jones over 20: 3

by DSheppard on Dec 16, 2007 5:12 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Yeah
that was a really stupid comment by Sharky.

by Chase Irwin on Dec 16, 2007 5:16 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Not really
For example, who has more chances?

Anyway, I said the stats dont bear me out, I'm going with my eyes. Jones is speedier, Marion runs helter skelter..often with little momentum, standing straight up and without speed.

If I'm the coasch I rededicate the running game around Jones on 1st and 10..

by Sharky on Dec 16, 2007 5:21 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

what does it matter if it looks like jones
should break more if he doesnt actually do it.

Pretty nice catch by Crayton.

by Athos on Dec 16, 2007 5:12 PM CST   0 recs

looking at the game stats this one looks ugly.
2 picks and hardly any rushing yards, and it isnt like they are playing against the steel curtain here

sorry i'm stuck at work with no tv so all i have is the nfl.com stats

Garrett
Questionable playcalling with the run on 2nd down and 10, even if it turned out to gain 7 yards. I think the run game needs a lot of work, but work on it in a safe situation/down. Right now we need a score so might as well go back to old reliable, the passing game, on 2nd and 10 there, knowing you'll come back on third as well.

Romo sure has a carefree attitude out there, I dunno of it's good or bad..
