OT: Cowboys / Eagles Game Thread
Matchup
W-L PF PA HOME ROAD DIV CONF
PHI 5-8 271 262 2-5 3-3 1-4 3-7
DAL 12-1 423 275 6-1 6-0 4-0 9-0
The Cowboys (12-1) come in having won seven straight since suffering their only loss of the season to New England on Oct. 14. Dallas rallied to win 28-27 last Sunday against the Detroit Lions to capture the NFC East title for the first time since 1998.
The Cowboys are now setting their sights on wrapping up a first-round bye with a win or a Seattle loss at Carolina on Sunday. They also could guarantee themselves home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs with a win and a Green Bay loss at St. Louis.
The Eagles have won five of their last seven visits to Dallas, including a 23-7 win on Dec. 25, 2006.
Another note: the Cowboys signed starting nose tackle Jay Ratliff, who took over the position when veteran Jason Ferguson was injured in the opening game of the year, to a five-year contract extension. I guess that solves the "who will replace Fergie long-term" question, although we control Tank Johnson through next year as well.
Scouts' Position Advantage:
QB - Dal
RB - Phi
WR - Dal
OL - Dal
DL - Dal
LB - Dal
DB - Phi
ST - Dal
Coach - Dal

Why not Trufant?
Move Hamlin to SS, Henry to FS.
Draft a receiver and a DE or RB.
If we can't sign a good corner, then draft one with the first pick.
But I agree, the secondary should be priority 1. Then get a receiver to eventually replace the Methusalehs we have now.

by DSheppard on Dec 16, 2007 4:17 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
No, sorry
He had plenty of time, a clear throwing lane, his best receiver with 2 full steps on his man, he simply airmailed it. Don't really care if it happens on other teams or not.
I still like Romo a lot, just saying. He has been way more accurate than that throughout this entire year. Missed opportunity -- T.O. knew it.

...but he's still got some gas in the tank. He will be the best quarterback that Chicago has had in a while when he goes there next year.

Not a bad thought
by Chase Irwin on Dec 16, 2007 5:06 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
meh, whatever.
romo has had a qb rating under 90 in ONE game. im not even sure brady can say that.
a bad game is just a bad game, as long as they come back nicely next week.
and obviously this game is hardly over. arnt even losing yet.

Game thoughts
By and large defense is actually playing pretty good though.
GB with another blowout today, over a bad team or not.
NE suddenly looks like any other team. I could easily see deveral AFC teams, Indy at the top of the list, going to NE and punching them in the mouth in the playoffs.
by Sharky on Dec 16, 2007 5:02 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I know I'm in the minority
I wish the coaches would gain some consistency in the running game.
by Sharky on Dec 16, 2007 5:05 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
more speed to break one
marion over 20: 7
jones over 20: 3
by DSheppard on Dec 16, 2007 5:12 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah
by Chase Irwin on Dec 16, 2007 5:16 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Not really
Anyway, I said the stats dont bear me out, I'm going with my eyes. Jones is speedier, Marion runs helter skelter..often with little momentum, standing straight up and without speed.
If I'm the coasch I rededicate the running game around Jones on 1st and 10..
by Sharky on Dec 16, 2007 5:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs

don't be so hard on yourself...
i mean... if you score... you make it a two-possesion game... with two minutes to play...
given romo's recent success with last-minute heroics... sure... it's possible they get seven and execute an onside kick with seconds to play...
but, it's a lot harder to do that with no time-outs...

Why did this have to happen w/ the eagles? Any team but the eagles.
Good job, Wade. 3rd and 9, game on the line, and you don't sub Roy Williams. He shoulda had help though.
Yuck...

I won't be worried at all unless we lose the next game. Let's re-evaluate after next Saturday's game.
We're 12-2, who would've thought that at the beginning of the season?

Johnson would throw a straighter ball
I'd be interested to see what sort of shenaniganry would occur with him playing.
I'm sure we could muster up a QB controversy..easiest thing in football. The backup QB is always better..
Anyways, on this game, it doesn't really matter too much, provided of course GB doesn't slip by us at any point. The sad, or is it nice, thing is I'm already looking ahead to the playoffs, aka our next meaningful game. More distressing is that we've been playing kinda bad..when was the last blowout this team had?
I blame Wade Phillips. I still think he is not calling the defense, which I think is inexcusable.
You could also easily make the case we "should" be 10-4, counting the Buffalo and Detroit games. Although, the Detroit game was a fair win, really. Buffalo of course we had no business winning.
by Sharky on Dec 17, 2007 7:30 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
You're not looking THAT far ahead ...
If anything, this is about the time when everyone debates if people should be rested or how much should they play, etc. etc.
