Espn Chat - Keith Law
Rangers items of note so far:
Chris (Waco, TX): Is there an ace in theRangers system and if so when will we see him?
SportsNation Keith Law: (2:20 PM ET ) I really like Michael Main, one of their first-round picks this year, but he's probably 3-4 years out. Eric Hurley's not an ace but he's very good and he's a year or so away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jon Daniels (Arlington, TX): How would you rate the job I have done so far? One really bad trade but otherwise not too bad. From the bottom to the top half of farm systems.
SportsNation Keith Law: (2:34 PM ET ) I think you've done a very good job, much better than some of your local writers want to admit. You've got a legit case to say your system is #2 overall behind the Devil Rays'.
SportsNation Keith Law: (2:37 PM ET ) San Diego or Texas. If I'm his agent, I take $400K from San Diego with incentives to go pitch in that park for a year.
I think alot of Prior wishers
That works against us in alot of ways.
Obviously our bad rap around the league for general suckage. But also tBIA isnt the friendliest park, and our anemic (on paper) offense cant be too tempting for him.
Maybe he'd think doing well in Arlington would look more convincing than in San Diego.
It just makes no sense. He will not sign with the Rangers.
Maybe the Astros
Id like to see him come to a Texas team and succeed, and the Astros got nothing (at all) to lose.
Ouch
I beg to differ.
If it was Mr. Gardner, it would be more along the lines of:
"Good God. You disgust me. How ignorant you are. Go get a bib and some tylenol, you moronic douchebag."
Oh
Obviously, I should have intuitively known you had nothing but high praise for my meager intellectual talents.
Evidently, "moron" is code for "olive branch."
I stand humbly corrected.
I love our system
The Reds are definitely better... possibly the Red Sox, Mariners, Marlins, and a few others my lack of expertise doesn't allow me to name.
Reds are top heavy
Marlins and Mariners arent even close.
We actually have a somewhat comparable system with Boston. Their a little better at the top, especially in the pitching department, but again, top to bottom, we have an advantage.
The same thing can be said for Boston though, come mid season their going to lose Ellsbury, Lester, Bucholz at the very least from their farm system ranks. (For lack of a better term.)
I dunno
Being top heavy is very important in the prospect game, with the rate of attrition as high as it is. And it's especially important to have top guys in the high minors.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush and whatnot.
Hopefully in a year or so we'll have those type of high ceiling guys, and hopefully they'll be in the high minors.
