Edwin Jackson

mlbtraderumors reported that the DRays Edwin Jackson can be had, and they are looking for either a veteran 1b or young catching.  Should the Rangers inquire here?  Would they take Laird?  Or Laird and what prospect?  What are you guys thoughts on Jackson and our chances here?

No mention of the Rangers yet, just thinking...

Jackson
A nice arm, but LA rushed him and he may never be able to put it together. His career BB/9 in both the minors (4.05) and majors (5.02) is awful.

If the interest in Laird has died, I guess.

Funny
how the expectations for the return in a Gerald Laird trade have been spiraling downward.  Not specifically Chase, but the room in general.

Felix Pie - Lastings Milledge - Coco Crisp - now Edwin Jackson

Couple more notches down and we will be at something realistic, IMO.

that's funny...
I'd take Edwin over all of the other 3...

BPIA
He had one of his best games ever in Arlington.

It's a start! Let's go get him people!

Jackson Hype
You could definitely see what all the fuss was about. He was throwing high 90's in the 8th inning.

Don't know...
what it would take. They would have to take Laird but I am sure they would want a top-level prospect. I do know that Jackson is very intriguing. He threw a couple of really good games against the Rangers last year in which he was dominant.

Jackson
He seems like the type of guy who could end up being a pretty dominant reliever if he could at all harness his stuff.

Why
Why do people keep talking about bringing another starter in? We need to find out if B-Mac, Kason and Volquez are for real and leave room for young guys like Hurley, etc.

Because you can't have too many
Millwood and Padilla might not figure into the long-term plans of the club, as it is.

If either were to get moved this offseason or during the year, I'd prefer a guy like Jackson getting the IP ahead of the Galarraga, Mendoza, Murray, et al crop. Hurley's "spot" would not be affected as he should be brought up whenever ready. If that's at the expense of Gabbard, who many see as a 4A soft-tossing lefty who is too injury prone, so be it.

i'll second that...
PITCHING, PITCHING, PITCHING...

... think the A's got to the playoffs with their line-up?...

pfffttttt...

Yeah
Giambi, Tejeda, and Chavez all in their prime were like pitching to Young, Sosa, and Byrd. Who needs hitting?

Correction
Now I'm writing Tejeda for Tejada not vice versa. lol

with Tejeda and Volquez
I'm not sure if we can take on another inconsistent SP with great stuff can we?

That's even assuming we keep Tejeda.

Yeah, well at least I'm housebroken.

i wonder if theyd consider moving tejeda to the
bullpen.

if he could add a mph or 2 in the pen and be throwing 97-98 with a nice slider, he could end up being a good setupman, iffy control or not.

they need to do with him...
...what they did with eddy-v.

If the deal is Laird for Jackson
then I would do it.  It actually makes sense on both ends, as the Rays have poor catchers all the way through their system and they are clearly starting to emphasize defense and performance over extreme and unharnassed potential.  Plus, they have a surplus of young pitchers.
