Zambrano

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2763803

If he doesnt recieve a contract before the season starts hes ready to become a free agent after this season....considering the fact that Zito got 126 mil...Zambrano will recieve even more if he hits the open market....hes a great pitcher but from his quotes he has an over inflated view of himself....i mean who gives themselves a nickname??

I doubt $200M, but.........
$160-$170M for 8 years wouldn't shock me.

also
Muslims, at least the converted ones

difference
I thought converted muslims gave themselves a new name, not just a nickname.  Cassius Clay changed his name, he didn't just say, "call me Ali".

Prince, Cher, Madonna
Who else am I missing?

Good call on Shaq, though. Makes me always think of Shaq-Fu or Shazam!

The article I read says Zambrano was refering to himself in the 3rd person. Does he need to run for president and start walking around the mound with a BIC pen in his throwning hand now?

Well...
Prince's first name is really Prince.
Madonna's first name is really Madonna.
Cher's first name is Cheryl.

shaq
just to be clear, he gave himself the nickname of "Big Aristotle," not Shaq.

Ruben Patterson named himself "The Kobe Stopper" a while back.

Allen Iverson went to court claiming that he named himself "the Answer."

I think Gilbert Arenas named himself both "Agent Zero" and "Hibachi"

and thinking about football
there are a ton.

Keyshawn named himself "7-11." Deion named himself "Prime Time."  Kenny Gant named himself "The Shark" (went back far for that one).  Rod Smart named himself "He Hate Me."

Anyway, its quite a common phenomenon mostly by cocky people -  both good and bad.

Yep.
Also shaq nicknamed himself wilt chambernese, the big aristotle, the diesel, the big daddy, the big baryshnikov, M.D.E. (most dominant ever), L.C.L (last center left), Supmerman, and Doctor Shaq...

per wiki.

I thought
that people already called him Big Z, but maybe I am wrong.  It doesn't matter, saying your nickname in 3rd person is still strange.

I wonder if he doesn't get a contract extension, does that mean that the Cubs try and trade him?  I wouldn't think so, because that would ruin there season that they just spent so much money on.  But if they do trade him, they could potentially get an enormous amount of talent back for him, as long as Big Z agrees to negotiate with that team.

trade
It depends on who they traded him for.  They could say trade him for ARod and noone would think they are "ruining" their season.  Trading him for prospects though would definately get the cubbie faithful in an uproar.

Signature! I don't need no stinking signature!!

Whatever
posturing. What do you expect him to say?

"No rush, Chicago. If you don't extend me now, we can still work things out whenever y'all feel like getting around to me."

This is another case of us making too much of an athlete's words.

My money is still on Big Z signing long term with the Cubbies and never seeing free agency.

6/120 with an IP clause that could put it at 8/160 sounds about right to me.

Based on the recent FA pitcher's
I say he gets the 8/$160, at least.

I gave myself a nickname...
...in law school...

I did it as a joke, but it sort of stuck (although, again, as a joke)...

What was it?
We know your brother is Scoonie
Jaramillo says it's all still there (with Sosa): the bat speed, the work ethic, the body, the will.
