OT: What happened to Studio 60?

I heard they might cancel it, but thought they had a few more episodes left. I really liked that show. Guess the snappy repartee was too much for the average Geico user to follow.......too bad!

I was listening to
the Pugs and Kelly show and Pugs was talking about this.  Apparently last week Heroes had 40 million viewers and the audience for Studio 60 was only 5 million so even with a huge amount of viewers Studio 60 wasn't able to keep even half of the viewers.  I too liked the show, they were saying they might bring it back later in the year when nothing is going on just to finish out the episodes.

studio 60
ive been watching it since the start, though it almost lost me early on...the story got stagnant, too much love story bs...but it actually started picking up recently but by then it was too late
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

Hmmm...
Maybe I should've kept watching then. I really liked the show, but then there was an episode where the little white guy who's name I don't know had his midwestern parents in to watch him do a show, and it was the most over the top, ham-fisted, sappy hour of television I'd ever seen. I tivo'd the next episode, but could never bring myself to watch it.

Maybe I'll watch it on DVD.

yeah
i mean it still has that, but the past 2 episodes (i think it was the past 2) they started doing flashback scenes, showing how matt was when he first started, and gave some backstory to the harriet thing. plus he's starting to pop pills.
BUt the whole danny and jordan thing just annoys me.
Though i agree with what you said, the show isn't gone because people are stupid, it's gone because it just couldnt bring it all together.

I was excited about that show
Thought the pilot was good, and watched a few more episodes. But I had to stop watching. It just took itself too damn seriously. There were a whole bunch of what I like to call "piano scenes"... the scenes where a character makes a really impassioned speech as a piano plays softly in the background. I just started screaming at the TV, "I get it, okay! You take what you do very, very seriously! Move on."

Don't fall into that trap of assuming that just because a show is "smart" that it failed because viewers were too dumb to enjoy it. That show just didn't come together, IMO.

Sorkin
I can't remember where I read this, but someone made a good point about Andrew Sorkin:  He doesn't write dialogue.  He writes exposition and assigns it to each of his characters.

SNL based shows
30 Rock >>>>> Studio 60

I never would have guessed that back when I first heard about the two shows last fall.

by trza on Feb 26, 2007 6:24 PM CST   0 recs

indeed
i thought the same , 30rock would bomb and studio 60 would come out to be a hit, but 30rock really turned a corner and has become quite good.

Best comedy on TV.

Have you seen Extras?

No
But I readily admit that I can't watch embarrassment comedies, so I can't really consider any of them.

I just can't enjoy them. Not to say that they're bad, I just don't find them funny and can't watch them.

I hear good things about that show, though.

30 Rock
I haven't seen it but I have a hard time believing that anything with Tracy Morgan on it can be the best of anything.
Milk, milk, lemonade, around the corner fudge is made.

Tracy Morgan is
really good at the character he plays.  They don't ask him to do too much, and they use him in small doses.  Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin are the real stars of the show; Fey is a lot better as an actress than I would have expected considering she's spent more of her career behind the scenes.

Really though, the best character on the show is Jack McBrayer aka "Kenneth the NBC Page".  I think he steals every scene he's in.

NBC put it on hiatus
I believe they have a couple more in the can, but the ratings were so bad that they couldn't put up with it anymore.

A show about SNL behind the scenes = Winner
A show with a bunch of stupid romance storylines that happens to be around a tv show = Loser.

I continued to watch it out of habit, but it was never even close to West Wing and probably not even Sports Night.

it's tough...
...to watch a show about a late night comedy show that isn't all that funny.  Every once in a while they needed to mix in some humor.  I like the show, but don't know many people that watch it.

by jgosline on Feb 26, 2007 6:57 PM CST   0 recs

It sucked
that's what happened.
