I brought this up in another, longer thread toward the end. Others have probably brought it up at some point, too, but I think the idea's worthy of it's very own diary and poll.
I don't know why they have to start the year with him on the 25-man roster. Wouldn't it make more sense to let him start at AAA? It's been a long time since the guy has seen MLB caliber pitching. It might be a good idea to let him ease into it.
If he sucks down there, then the Rangers will not have wasted a bunch of prime time at-bats on a lost cause. If he's successful and the guys on the big league team are struggling, they can call him up to help out. I don't really see a drawback.
In the other discussion, Ed brought up that Sosa may only have a finite amount of baseball left in his body, and AAA would be a waste. I don't really agree. I think that there's plenty of baseball left in Sosa's body, but his eyesight and reaction time might not be what it once was. And if that's the case he has no business playing for the Rangers.
So the question is, what would you do with Sosa and why?
