Positive appearances for Gagne, Littleton, Wilson

Three members of the Rangers pen pitched today in the minor league game, and all three had positive appearances...

Eric Gagne apparently threw well, with 14 pitches, 10 for strikes, and a pair of strikeouts.

Richard Durrett blogs that C.J. Wilson had better control than he's had all spring while working two innings, and Wes Littleton had his sinker working well.  Good to see both of those guys getting back on track...

Gagne
I wasn't really worried about Wilson or Littleton, figuring they were just struggling to get goint.  But it is very good to see Gagne pitch twice so far and do well with no physical problems.  Let's hope that trend continues.

Gagne
It's weird to think how exciting the possibilities were leading up to his signing, only to watch him pitch in B games and have "great moments" during bullpen sessions.

I didn't realize how far gone he was.  And still $6m worth.  Hope for the best...

wow
Another home run for Sosa and Botts' second error. What are the Rangers thinking? Help me out Adam.

American Legends
I'm trying to decide if Gagne would be worth drafting early on in my fantasy draft...Do you think he'll be back to old form?

I wouldn't take him in the top 100 picks
or amongst the top 5-7 closers.  That's not to say that someone else won't take him in the 4th round before Ryan or Rivera, but he's unlikely to give better value than the top guys this year.

All that said, my league is almost to the 20th round and I only have Huston Street.  I'm gonna go with high strikeout setup men and maybe steal a couple closers a month or two in.  Or trade one of my 5 3B for a closer when somebody gets tired of starting Joe Crede.

Oh, and I know "nobody cares about your fantasy team".

Sounds like a good strategy...........
but you're right.....nobody cares about your fantasy team.  :)

yep
I decided long ago that there weren't nearly enough teams named after the Mongoose and that if I ever had a chance to name a sports team I'd name them after Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.  And "rambling" happens to be one of my favorite adjectives.  ...and "Mongeese" sounds better than "Mongooses", "Mongoxen", or "Mongii"

It was nice to see somebody draft Kerry Wood this morning.  At this rate, we might just get the draft finished before the all-star break.

Screaming Weasels
That was always my fantasy team name.  I don't know much about ecosystems and shit, but don't weasels eat mongooses (mongeese)?

I don't know.
I think they're somewhat related.

In Hawaii, they're considered the most dangerous animals on the planet because they kill so many endangered species - that's what I look for in a fantasy team mascot.  F' the Alala and the Nihoa Millerbird!

I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash...
...in that same league.  Your team is pretty loaded, expecting a full bounce back from Matsui?

I don't really care for the points format, but other than that it is a great league.  I actually like the long, drawn out draft process cause it helps me see how other guys value different players and positions.  Helps me draft better in a couple of money leagues.

I'm hoping that my youth movement from
last year will pay off this year.  If Alex Gordon performs at a high level I think I can compete...assuming Brock's team doesn't blow everyone away by 900 points again this year.  Y'know, he's the reason we both have 1 closer, he's sitting on 4 of them expecting somebody to overpay for one of them - won't be me.

Matsui had one of the best health records in the last 20 years before last year and he played pretty well at the end of last year so I'm not too worried about him.

I don't necessarily mind the points format.  It lets everybody build a team a little more freeform.  Last year I think I led the world in stolen bases and singles, but was horrible in homeruns.  And the offline draft is kind of fun because it lets me agonize over 3-4 guys for a week at a time, I just hope we get everything done before the season starts.

brock's lions
yeah, it seems a little wierd to me because the scoring format seems to really overvalue starting pitching, but Brock builds his team with little regard for starting pitching.  His lineup is so stacked that he just seems to methodically build up points every single day.

Plus, I made a huge mistake in throwing Mo Rivera back into the free agent pool.  I tried to get a little too fancy and keep a bunch of late round picks, so as to not lose those early draft choices.  Live and learn.

on a points/IP relievers are more valuable
the average closers are good for about 3.5-4 points per inning pitched whereas most starters are only about 2.5-3 points.  He'll have to use up roster spots on them, but its not out of the question that 3 of his closers could combine to get him Johan Santanaesque production in 200 IP.

Its a nice strategy, but its only realistic if you start with an OF stacked with Manny-Vlad-Sizemore, otherwise you're passing up on too many other players.

Looking back, the only keeper I wish I'd held onto was Howie Kendrick.  Lastings Milledge may turn out to be a fine fantasy player, but he's unlikely to contribute as much as Kendrick this year or next.  Out thought myself on that one.
