Jered Weaver to the disabled list

The Angels have announced that Jered Weaver will start the season on the disabled list, something that wasn't exactly unexpected, given his slow progress this spring.

The opening series against Anaheim looks like it will be:

Kevin Millwood v. John Lackey
Vicente Padilla v. Kelvim Escobar
Brandon McCarthy v. Ervin Santana

Joe Saunders will be the #4 starter, and either Dustin Moseley or Hector Carrasco will take the 5th spot until Weaver returns.

Opening Series
The only one of those pitchers that bother me right now is actually Padilla. I'm not sure why but the guy just strikes me as a little bit lazy. Some of the other players like McCarthy or Frankie (The Chair) Francisco seem to possibly have maturity issues but those tend to correct themselves after a year or so.I'm hoping the big multi-year contract doesn't let him think he can just slide by.

I think
Ervin Santana scares me the most out of that list.

Realy?
Lackey is pretty darn good.

Padilla..
Anyone concerned about his "elbow soreness"?

enough padilla hating
would you say that about any other pitcher who has "health problems"? probably not. stop with the padilla bias already. he helped us tremendously last year. you can't just label it him trying to land a huge contract. give your team player the benefit of the doubt for christ's sake. innocent until proven guilty.

He's right to be worried about
"elbow soreness".  There has been a history of guys like Frankie Francisco and Jeff Zimmerman complaining of elbow soreness in camp, who eventually need TJ surgery.

I don't think its Padilla bias.  I recall a few Ranger pitchers who sound like they have mild elbow pain one day, and its a season ending surgery the next.

TJ
I think if padilla had to have TJ surgery, it wouldve been before now. it seems like most pitchers get it when they're younger if they need it.

Tommy John
was 31 when he got it.  A lot of players get it in their later years.

Victor Zambrano was 31 last year.  Smoltzy was 33 when he got it.

It is absolutely not uncommon for a thirty something pitcher to have TJ surgery.

I would say it about anyone
If a pitcher is having elbow problems that is a bad thing no matter who it is.  And what is he "innocent" of?  He did actually miss a start because of elbow soreness.

I thought I read somewhere
that he wanted to go but Wash and the training staff held him out.  Was I dreaming?  I know that's an easy cop out to say he was held out but I hope it's the truth I can't take any more Rangers bad news after Diamond, Loe and now this.
