Danks.....

Just heard on ESPN radio that Danks has been named the 5th starter for the White Sox to begin the season.  Guess we'll get a good measure of that trade right away.

The Sox...
aren't above petty behavior.  Do you think they're trying to show McCarthy and the Rangers up?

Heh.
Trifling with a young man's career...  Outrage!

No
They just really, really like Danks.

Well
Danks did out pitch all the other pitchers who 'auditioned' for that 5th spot...

by Longhorn on Mar 24, 2007 8:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed
This article makes it sound like he pitched his way into contention.

For the record...
I really-really like Danks also.

Man, maybe I'm alone regarding this, but, this is the worse news of ST for me. By far. I thought the trade sucked on day one, according to LSB polling I was alone. B-Mac is not terrible, but Danks is homegrown, a terrific local story, and HELLO! He's a Lefthander.

If these guys pitch at about the same level this season, I'll be miffed. If Danks outpitches B-Mac? I'm off the J-D wagon.

My opinion.

The competition in Chicago
was far less intense than in Texas.  Danks would not have beaten Loe and Wright.

I doubt Massett would've made the Rangers pen as well.  With the struggles of Littleton and Bauer, he may have snuck in there, but it seems like it would've been a long shot.

It's better to know some of the questions than all of the answers.

Agreed......Danks would not have
beaten out Bruce Chen (he may not even have had a shot, based on the kid gloves approach the Ranger's & many on here espoused) either.

I wish Danks the best....but people need to move on....he's gone, McCarthy's here. I'm starting to wonder if there's Ranger fans or just Danks fans.

i think
im going to be ill
Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!

by rentz on Mar 24, 2007 8:51 PM CDT reply actions

Why?
I don't think I'd feel as good about a Millwood/Padilla/Tejeda/Wright/Danks rotation right now...

by Adam J. Morris on Mar 24, 2007 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions

well
mostly because i hate to see the guy jump right into the rotation of another team. as irrational as it may be, i would have felt much better about the deal if he waited another year before joining the rotation

How would you feel about
Millwood/Padilla/Tejeda/Loe/Wright

If last winter I had thought Loe could be a solid #4, I'm not sure the upgrade to McCarthy at the expense of Danks would seem like that much of an improvement.

I had no idea Loe had it in him to come into spring training and dominate.  It appears the Rangers organization didn't think Loe could be a solid #4, and do not think he is that guy, because they still haven't given him a spot in the rotation.  If they felt strongly about Loe, they could still send Tejeda down and keep two rather than one of Littleton, Bauer, Chen, Feldman, and frankfrank in the bullpen.

It's better to know some of the questions than all of the answers.

Why?
McCarthy hasn't done anything to suggest he will pitch worst than Danks this season. McCarthy is also likely to perform better immediately given his experience in the league.

I feel much more comfortable with McCarthy in the rotation.

Danks
I think I would prefer over McCarthy.  I thought the whole reason we went McCarthy was because he is major league ready right now, well maybe Danks is as well.  At least the White Sox think so.  And we would have him (Danks) under control longer, and also have Nick.  I still hope BMac is better, but this flies in the face of why is was supposedly done.

Nick Masset
also locked down a bullpen spot.

this uberhurts. Danks and Masset.

Bleck
I hate, hate, hate seeing Danks in another team's unimform.

Hate it.

Thank ye, thank ye. Good to be hither.

I Don't Understand...
Why people are reacting so badly to this. So he threw well--in Spring Training. This does NOT mean he will do well come April. Not that I wish Massett or Danks ill come regular season, but let's  see how this plays out first, shall we? He could be a complete bust and be sent back down to AAA, then will it make people around here sick?

by Melmart1 on Mar 25, 2007 9:45 AM CDT reply actions

Look
It's just a gut reaction, seeing a guy who you have been anticipating starting for your team get traded and suddenly catch on as the 5th starter. I still am not 100% on that trade, but I understand why it was made. Sure he may fail and be sent to AAA, but the same could happen to McCarthy (though I doubt he would be sent down even if he was awful)

With all the respect that is due to Danks,
I think his presence in the rotation (and Massett's in the bullpen) is an indication that the Rangers pitching can be expected to be deeper if not better (in terms of performance measures like ERA+, K/BB, etc).  Danks would not have made the Rangers rotation given the springs posted by Loe and Wright.  Massett would've been in competition with Chen, Littleton, Feldman, Bauer, and frankfrank for two bullpen spots.
It's better to know some of the questions than all of the answers.

Thank you.........finally a voice of reason
root for Danks (and Massett) to do well, but why can't ya'll also root for McCarthy....it doesn't have to be a "zero sum" game.......they may all do well. I am glad to have McCarthy. Let the regular season begin.
